Here is a thread and photos of OLD (20 PLUS year old) Fram filter.
Old Fram filter thread
Comments?
I've used Frams for many many years. Cut open EVERY filter and never an issue.
Lucky?
Take care, bill
Our textbooks were from the late 70's and had pics of metal endcaps on the filters. I was thinking 60's and 70's FRAM filters

Sounds like they switched in the 80's perhaps? 20 years to me isn't that old, that's how old my one car is
That filter in the thread was made between 1973 to 1983. So the youngest it could be is 25 to 35 years old.
Quote from the thread:

But it was before 1983 as this is the year that "The Allied Corporation acquired Bendix. In the 1983 merger, the three brand names FRAM®, Bendix, and Autolite became part of Allied Automotive, one of the five business sectors of Allied Corporation."
So the filter above was built between 1973 and 1983.
I doubt Bendix changed it from whoever they bought it from.
Maybe some of your books showed a different model, but I can tell you every Fram I've cut open has looked like the one in the photo.. (with out the rust in the can)
Like I've said, the Fram filters work and have been built like they are now for a LONG time...
Take care, bill
