StarTron Solved My Weed Trimmer Carburetor Problems

My Echo SRM-225 had been running poorly for a couple of years. I would have to run it on choke to keep it going. It would fuss, stumble and die when using it. It got so bad that I did not use it for the last three years. Considered getting a new carb for it but just bought a battery powered Stihl.

Anyway I was thinking about the Claims of StarTron that it cleans fuel systems. I put new gas in it and gave it a heavy dose of StarTron, maybe 5 times the basic amount. After a few choice words I did manage to get it running. I ran it on choke for about ten minutes and shut it off. Let it sit for 48 hours and started it up. Lo and behold it runs like new. Started on second pull. So using this product may keep a fuel system clean.

Battery powered Stihl? My gosh I'm so glad your 225 is running!

I met a gentleman at a flea market with a trailer load of weed eaters and chain saws that he said he picked up of the street that were being thrown away. All of them that he had in his trailer ran so I asked him what he had to do to get them to run. He told me that he puts a 1/4 th cup of SeaFoam in them and primes them and then he puts in 2 stroke gas and they run. I tried this with a WeedEater blower that my Dad had in his lawn shed that had to at least have been setting for 10-12 years. Sure enough, It worked and started on the third pull. I ran it all day and went through two tanks of gas and never missed or anything. Made me a believer in his system.

Solvents and potions might fixed a gummed up carb. More certain is disassembly and manual cleaning, and even more certain is carburetor replacement, which costs almost nothing given the proliferation of Chinese replacements.

I used to run 87 E10 and used Sta-Bil in the off seasons. Years ago I switched to only 91 E0 for my OPE and no longer treat it with anything. Everything starts as expected, carbs and bowls are clean when inspected. Same goes with my Lawn-Boy and Echo saw, 91 E0 and Royal Purple HP 2-C oil, start quickly even after sitting for 6+ months at a time.

I know its not available in all areas but if it is, use it.

87 octane E0 is what is available to me (conveniently walking distance from my house), and that's all I'll run in our mower (weedeater and blower are 40v Ryobi). Buy it a gallon at a time bc our yard is tiny, 1 gal will last us most of the summer. I would run it in our cars, too, but it's about $2 more per gallon than 87 E10. Lol

I add Gumout High Mileage Complete treatment at the rate of 2x the recommended dosage per gallon added to the gas can, and our 6 year-old Cub Cadet push mower still starts first pull and runs like brand new. I usually drop the fuel bowl off the carb each spring and spray some cleaner through every hole I can see, just in case but mainly for giggles. : D

Alright y'all, I splurged and got a bottle of Star Tron based on recommendations here.

I bought a new Toro mower in about 2012 or 2013 and had to junked it last fall, after the second carb rebuild and I couldn't get it to run reliably.

I have never used any kind of additive in my gas, and ethanol-free gas isn't easy to find in my area so I generally just use regular E10. I'm willing to admit that I was wrong here but I'd rather get a $12 bottle of Star Tron than have to go get ethanol-free gas for all my yard equipment every year.

I also have an Echo SRM-225 weed wacker, an Echo leaf blower/vacuum with the same engine, and got a Tory Bilt mower off craigslist for $25 that I think may end up running for a few more years.

One capful per gallon, and then my small engine carburetors will run forever and I'll never have any problems again. That's what you guys promised right?

Whatever you get from the gas station for your equipment, make sure buy 91 octane or higher and use it up within 2 months, dispose of it after that. We tell our clients not to use gas that's over 1 month old, too many problems.

Either that or use synthetic fuel (Stihl MotoMix, Aspen, etc ... NOT TruFuel!) or go with battery tools.

Why 91 octane though? It has the same amount of ethanol in it.

A trip through my ultrasonic cleaner has been the ticket for me. I usually put the minimally disassembled carb in a glass peanut butter jar, fill the jar with gasoline and put the jar in the ultrasonic cleaner filled with near boiling water. If that doesn't work the carb needs new a diaphragm because they're too stiff from age and ethanol.
