That's been my experience too.

I tried that 2 years in a row, with my snowblower, and got a fail to start each year.

But it worked very well for my old Honda mower.

I just started my snowblower last week which hadn't been run since last March, almost 10 months ago. It started on the 10th pull, puffed a little smoke and ran fine the rest of the day.

Here is what I do to all my machines that have very small gas tanks and are stored for more than 3 months or so; Fill the tank with fresh gas that has both MMO and star-tron dosed correctly. Run the engine for about 5 minutes to make sure your treated fuel gets into the carburetor. Let the engine cool, pull the plug and spray a quick shot of fogging oil in the cylinder. Pull or crank the starter a few times to distribute the fogging oil. Now put the spark plug back in and store the machine.

When you are ready to run the machine again, suck out all the old gas with a syphon or suction gun. If your carburetor has a bowl drain, drain it out also. Take the old gas and put it into a machine that has at least a 10 gallon tank, I.E. your car. Fill the machine that was just stored with fresh gas, (I run a dose of MMO and star tron all year) and give her a rip. It may be a little difficult to start and may smoke a little but it will be OK.

I have never, ever, had a carburetor gum up or a machine fail to start using this method. I have used it on snow blowers, motorcycles, lawn mowers, boat engines, and all types of lawn equipment including 2 and 4 stroke engines. I HAVE had trouble running machines dry or only using a fuel stabilizer. I will never go those routes again.

Did you run it every month in the off season?
