Stainless steel screws best for fixing inside oven door?

Somehow, one of the two screws that affixes an item to the oven door (from the inside of the oven) came off. I have the other one, and will go to Lowes to find a match later on today. I read that stainless steel screws are best for the inside of an oven, because they don't rust, and they don't have zinc plating that will give off fumes. Is that the case? And is that the best type of screw, or should I look for something else?

You prefer not to weld or torch galvanized steel because the zinc coating gives off a toxic fume (zinc oxide fume) That's a cause of so called metal fume fever. I doubt that an oven would be hot enough to do that but I'd still look for stainless steel screws. Might have to go to a specialty place to get stainless steel screws in the right size but I think its worth the effort.

You need to determine:
* Inch or metric
* Length and diameter
* Thread pitch (spacing between threads).

If you can't find what you need at Lowes, check out -

They are an industrial supplier and will have it (guaranteed).
Only problem is you will have to purchase a 'whole' box (probably of 50).

If not them, check on E-Bay or Amazon for small quantities.

I would also look at manufacturer website, and if the oven is higher end, even visit the retailer or contact the factory directly. You are correctly trying to source a specialty fastener, and OEM removes any doubt. This is especially true in a world flooded with shaky Chinese parts of all kinds.

I have gone to a local supplier looking for one screw to fix something and they usually just give it to me . Too much paperwork for an 85 cent transaction .. 🤓

Besides, even if they don't sell the part or you wish to access it elsewhere, they may have diagrams that provide the specifications for the hardware required.

Went to lowes, they didn't have stainless steel metric (fit perfectly into 0.8, but not closest imperial measurement), so I came home and ordered OEM replacement. Thanks anyways.
