What should I do about a squeaky vent blower? Every time you use the heat/ac it squeaks from the vents on the passenger side.

Is this something that needs to replaced and not repairable?

It is a 98 Dodge Avenger.

can you be more specific as to whether the squeaky noise is coming from the motor (bushing needs oil) or is it from something else?

If it's a sealed motor unit then most likely the bushing needs oiling. That being said however, some, if not most of these blower motors their bushings are sealed to begin with.

I would check out local wreckers for blower motor (and take advantage of their return/exchange policy if the one that they pulled off is also squeaky).

i think it is from the motor because I can't be certain unless i pull it out.

I was guessing that motor bushing would be sealed. So it's pretty much a waiting for it to die and then replace type of situation.

Yeah, either that or wait for it to drive you crazy, then replace. You could try to pull it out and lubricate it. That might buy some time.

Most plain jane GM's are $20/30. ish. Usually not too hard to change. Have in the past drilled a tiny hole in front and rear bushing cover area and dripped oil into otherwise sealed assemblies. Doesn't allways work, but what ya got to loose?

I bought a motorcraft with shipping from rock auto for about $70 or so. The local Ford dealers in San Diego wanted about $120 or something.

When I tried to buy one at the local parts stores they looked pretty cheap and some needed the wire harness attached (autozone)
Gimmie a break.

Sounds like you need to just replace it.

New guy here. I like to go outside the box when it comes to fan motors. Alot of the Car manufacturers will out source the motors to major motor companies. Take the model number of the motor not the fan assembly and try to cross reference it with Graingers, McMaster Car, FASCO and other motor companies. I often find a motor for less than the dealer. You just have to split the fan from the old motor and reassemble. You can save big $$ doing it that way. Just my .02 worth. Good luck.

98 Dodge Avenger is most likely a Mitsu so the likeliness of mitsu blower motor is high.

Currently, for most import Japanese vehicles (with the exception of some domestically assembled ones which may have sourced their parts from NA suppliers) use either Nippon Denso, Mitsu or Hitachi motor assemblies.

even sealed motors can be unsealed and greased. i recently did this with a couple radiator fan motors that were crimp sealed from the factory. all thats needed is a few screwdrivers to uncrimp the motor can and you can pull it in half to regrease. while you in there have a look at the brushes.
