Spybot-S&D "Bad Checksum"?

...So the other day I deleted Adaware and Spybot S&D from my system due to that fact that neither one of them had found anything in the few months that I've had my new computer and been using Mozilla Firefox.

Well, I guess it's just my own insecurity, but I decided today to go ahead and re-install Spybot just in case I might feel the need for it in the future.

Went ahead and installed it, but when I try to update the "detection definitions", instead of downloading the file, it says "bad checksum"...

What the heck does this mean?

Bad checksum is a magic number that all the bytes in a file add up to in a formula. So if you have some missing bytes and likely a corrupt file you get a bad checksum. Clear as mud.

theres a drop down box up top where you can select the server to download from, simply pick a different server, the server it is trying to download from has a corrupt copy of the update.

Update: Fatal, thank you for the information. Downloaded it again, and although several of the servers had the "bad" copy, I finally found one that worked. Thanks!

I wanted to make sure that when you are removing software that you are using ADD/REMOVE programs from Control Panel and not deleting, correct?
