In the last couple of months there's been an automatic spell check for what I type. I hope its dictionary allows local control. For example

Carquest has been auto corrected to car quest.
Spellcheck is also considered to be two words.

It "figures it out" when I backspace and retype what I meant to type the first time, so it's not super aggressive.

Maybe this thread could serve as a list of suggestions for the big black book of BITOGisms?

I turned it off on my iPad. My iPhone seems ok... but then again, I don't type much on it.

In Office it works ok. But dang if it doesn't think HSA is supposed to be HAS. No idea why. I fixed it one time, updating the dictionary... only to have it lose it on some update. I do like the fact that it auto capitalizes, but sometimes I think I'd be better off turning off all the auto stuff and letting me type badly. Squiggle the red lines to let me know it thinks I did wrong... but make me be the one to fix it (because sometimes it's what I actually wanted). If it stopped doing things for me, I'd go back to doing it myself. Like I did... in the bad old days. Which makes me think they weren't that bad after all. You know, when I had to re-read what I wrote, and think about what I wanted to say, and think in the first place, and think about if I really wanted to say that in the end, after typing it all out.

I will admit. I am one of the luddites who wants nothing to do with AI.

The rset can be a taotl mses and you can sitll raed it whoutit a pboerlm. Tihs is bucseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey ltteer by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe. Aaznmig, huh? Yaeh and I awlyas tghhuot slelinpg was ipmorantt! See if yuor fdreins can raed tihs too.

Years ago I read a paragraph in a Reader's Digest magazine that seemed off... until I got to the last sentence, where it delivered the punchline. Not nearly as bad as above. Wish I could find it again.

But get "jive" and "jibe" wrong and the internet will never let you forget.

Sometimes I use the autocomplete feature in search engines as my spell checking tool. Even words that are spelled correctly can appear wrong to me on occasion. The more I rely on technology the worse my spelling ability gets.

The HSA thing drives me bonkers, considering I work in banking.
