Modern speed enforcement is more about revenue generation than safety. Imagine what would happen if no one committed any traffic offenses or were issued tickets for 2 months! The local government would be in a panic and a financial breakdown would occur.

Why didn't your wife flirt with the cop to avoid the ticket and just get a warning or nothing at all. My wife does it all the time and gets away with it. LOL!
No need for a lawyer. Just have her show up to court and ask if there is any way to pay the fine plus court cost and have it withheld from her driving record. Most court systems in the US will do this as long as her driving record is good. As a plus, if the officer doesn't show up (happens about 5-10% of the time), the ticket is automatically dismissed.

Pretty sure the first ticket you ever get doesn't put any points on your license and doesn't get reported to your insurance. At least, that's what the cop told me when I got my first (and only) ticket. I never noticed any change in my insurance rates.
When I lived in New Orleans, an enterprising young lawyer operated out of his car trunk, which he parked at the court house every day. For $50, he would represent you in traffic court, try to get the ticket dismissed, or, barring that, get the fine reduced. You didn't even have to show up to court. I never required his services, but several friends did, and they were quite happy with their outcomes.

My stepfather was pulled over several times when traveling with my mom. He did a U-Turn with his camper and talked his way out of the ticket. My mom was hoping he would get a ticket and was kinda disappointed when he did not.

My only time at traffic court. Most people were disgustingly obese or skinny (bad habits with eating/exercise and drugs I figured), wore sweatpants and sloppy clothes, and could either not speak English, or used it so poorly that it sounded like they had never set foot in school.
To dress neatly and professionally, stand for the judge, use your honor and the other terms of endearment and be respectful and responsible (in perception) helps a lot.

You tell your wife it is up to HER to deal with this and figure out what she is going to do. Simply tell her I warned you to slow down and you ignored me and argued with me about it. Now deal with the mess you created.
May not seem like a popular approach for a married couple but she did it and she should have to deal with it not you. Maybe having to do so, plus the financial hit taken, will smarten her up and get her to slow down? Let her figure it all out.

Otherwise, if her driving record is presently clear, typically the prosecuting attorney for most jurisdictions will take these "under advisement", meaning she pays the fine, pays the court costs, takes an approved defensive driving course, and if she has no other offenses within a specified time, usually six months, the ticket will be dismissed and not appear on her driving record.
66 in a 40 may, or may not, make it tougher. Sometimes they want the cops concurrence. The bigger the ticket, the more likely that becomes.

Takes to district attorney, first offense...350$ cash delivered in person to him. Bribe? Maybe, but I didn't speed once on the 200 mile drive to him. Not once on the way back either.
I now drive 60 on the interstate and five over in the city because the MPG difference is huge. Most of the time I'm moving slower than anyone.
