Softener salt with resin cleaner

To assist iron management, I also use this following system. It drips the Res Care Phosphoric acid (common food/beverage additive) into the brine well. My studies at the Terry Love plumbing forum taught me that handling iron above 1 ppm with a water softener starts to become inefficient and other systems should be considered. (Sorry going off topic, Gon).

Where did you get this?

My softener came with the feeder.

Res Up feeder and solution is from the Clack Corporation (U.S. Softener Valves). https://www.clackcorp.com/all-products/

ResCare feeder and solution is from the Pro Products: https://proproducts.com/collections/water-treatment

I like the Res Up feeder best. The ResCare solution is cheapest (both phosphoric acid).

You can find both for sale online. Amazon has them. Like anything, a thorough Google search will bring up the best bargains.

I think a gallon lasts me about one year. Its just a wick system that drips solution into the brine well. I imagine using treated salt does the same thing? I get a good 15 years or so out of our softener resin on water at 30 grains per gal. hardness, including 1ppm of iron.

Very good and helpful information, thanks @doitmyself

Btw, Terry Love plumbing forum is a very good resource for water softener information. Lots of snake oil salespeople in the water softener industry.

Agreed. I have about two dozen bookmarks regarding water softening, but I've always liked this following one that covers the basics in layperson terms. It really teaches how to size the water softener for optimum, efficient use of salt and water.

Hope it's ok to post this link: https://www.aquatell.ca/pages/ultimate-water-softener-guide

Thanks for the link. The website has a free 49 page downloadable guide on water softeners. Think it is a really good read for anyone looking to buy a water softener.

Good stuff @doitmyself !!
