We finished at the top of group C

, we have the same 5 points and the same goal differences with England but we scored more goals 4 vs. 2. We'll meet second finisher of group D. Hope that either Germany will either finish as the top of group D or eliminated all together, then we will have a chance to advance to quarter final.

Mathematically Ivory Coast is not out yet, but to get to second round they need to win over North Korea by 5-6 goals and Brazil defeat Portugal by similar number of goals, which is nearly impossible. This means Ghana is the only African country will be in the next round, and all 5 South American have a good chance to advance in to next round.

USA has a good chance to advance to quarter final, we can beat Ghana in the round of 16. If we finish 2nd in the group we will play Germany next round and there is very little chance we will be able to pull an upset over Germany.

French football team/coach are so bad, not only their performance is below third world teams, their behavior is below third world too. French coach refused to shake hand with South Africa coach after the game. One person opinion on sports.yahoo.com: "Typical French! JERKS SUPREME!!!"

Sub-par performance in 3 matches is one thing, bad behavior is another thing.
 
Ghana will be tough. IF (BIG IF) we beat them, then we get the winner of Uruguay-South Korea in the quarterfinals.

Man I dunno, Algeria didn't want to lose, but they didn't want to win. That makes a tough opponent in soccer. What a GAME.
 
There are no easy opponents in second round and beyond. There are tough and tougher teams that you need to beat if you want to win the pretty World Cup. Ghana will be tough, but Germany will be much tougher to beat. From now on we just need to concentrate to win 1 match at a time, who will be the opponent after this second round will be deal with after we win.
 
Italy, the second big European team went home today after loosing 2:3 to Slovakia. The All-White New Zealand tried very hard to score but could not, they went home without a loss but didn't win a match either. The All-White lost the chance to go to second round but they were very well behave, shook hands and exchanged t-shirts with Paraguay players. The Italian in the other hand behave the same as the French, refused to congratulate the winner. Some big teams of European are a bunch of sore losers.

On the other hand... this is Slovakia's first world cup and it's amazing that they reached the round of 16.. kudos for them!
 
The New Zealand team should be proud for their performances on and off the field. They should be in the second round if the Italian did not dive in the penalty area to get the penalty kick in previous game.
 
I agree. Seems like some teams with class made it through as well.

I want to say something: Honda knows how to score a goal. That guy I had not watched much before. The free kick that went in. Whazzamy!!

Well,we're out without losing a game,not a bad effort we feel.There will be a lot more interest taken in soccer here now.
 
We have Ireland and Wales here now - 2nd Wales test match at Waikato Stadium just down the road tonight.The rugby test matches have taken nothing away from soccer - the All blacks were practising last week in All white jerseys.Hey,a Maori scoring the only goal for NZ in the World Cup is going to have a lot of kids kicking a soccer ball down at the Marae.It's a win win for soccer here.
 
for sure. NZ did great even better than australia, no one even met the australians back at sydney airport today.
 
Brazil-Portugal match was a little boring, neither side wants to risk injury. Ivory Coast played very well but it was too little too late, North Korean went home with zero point (their leader isn't very proud of a big zero).

The later matches at 11:30 AM today between Chile vs Spain and Honduras vs Switzerland will be better because all teams want to win to get to second round.
