Soccer World Cup 2010 thread...

The draw happened last night in South Africa.

Some things that are interesting come match day:
1. England and USA drawn together
2. Australia is going to have a hard time
3. North Korea has a soccer team? What if north and south korea meet int he 2nd round? will the world self destruct?
4. New Zealand made it to the world cup?? blimey!

Australia is lucky for not get in the group of death G with Brazil, Côte d'Ivoire and Portugal. If Australia is in place of North Korea, then the chance to get to second round is nil.

North Korea was the first Asian team to get to quarter final in 1966.

Group A and B are easy groups.

I will take the USA draw any day of the year! Better than last WC.

The Portugal and Brazil group will get a good working over.....

If the US and Aus place 1st and 2nd in their groups they meet in the 2nd round.

And the US starts with England.

Hmm. Trying to whittle down the Anglosphere teams ASAP.

Seeing as soccer is not very big here most of our top players play in international teams....not much locker room bonding with their team mates all year round,this could count against them.Most important for the game here is the prize money for just getting to the World cup,nearly 10 million - that will go a long way on a club level here.We call them the All Whites.

All eyes here are on the Rugby World Cup.

Group A: France, Uruguay
Group B: Argentina, Nigeria
Group C: England, U.S.A
Group D: Germany, Serbia
Group E: Netherlands, Denmark
Group F: Italy, Paraguay
Group G: Brazil, Ivory Coast
Group H: Spain , Chile

-USA
-New Zeeland (New Zeeland and Australia rarely make it to the world cup and I"m hoping they will both do good)
-Australia
-Netherlands
-South Korea (I want to Asian team doing good)
-Nigeria (I want an African team to do good)

France won't go to second round. Players are too busy counting their dollars right now to play like a real team.

98 is so far now.

When do the Rugby World Cup start? At least, this is an interesting sport.

Reminds me when I was listening France beating Australia in semi-final (thank you Blanco for the sneaky try) at the radio in 1988 (or 1989?) while going to an engineering school exam (had to decide between listening the end of the game and going to the exam).
