Can't wait, not much for the US team(hold your comments) as last World Cup left a lot to be desired by them. Hopefully it will be different this year. I enjoyed watching S. Korea, Brazil and Japan teams play. The Czek's were pretty good as well(play wise).

I think it was 06 where they were rocking wasn't it?

Group A: Mexico and France dukeing it out Uruguay spoiler!
Group B: Argentina will breeze, 2nd could be fun
Group C: England, U.S.A - I see the yanks already working on excuses, but durmit we can beat the blimey banger munchers - but decently tough group
Group D: Germany Group of Lounge for Germany
Group E: Netherlands, Denmark Group of Lounge II
Group F: Italy, Paraguay Group of Lounge III
Group G: Brazil, Portugal NK won't go far even with an extra goalie
Group H: Spain , Chile Don't write off Swiss cheese.

Which is the group of death?

My vote/prediction

Group A: 1 Uruguay, 2 Mexico
Group B: 1 Argentina, 2 Nigeria
Group C: 1 England, 2 U.S.A
Group D: 1 Germany, 2 Serbia
Group E: 1 Netherlands, 2 Denmark
Group F: 1 Paraguay, 2 Italy
Group G: 1 Brazil, 2 Portugal
Group H: 1 Spain, 2 Chile

France lost to China(not in the World Cup final) 0-1 yesterday in a friendly tune-up game, the way they played in that game will not carry them pass the first round.

I hear you!! I'm up to watch the US v. Aus friendly.

Watched the friendly, was pretty good, slow towards the end but a good game. Last goal with a few minutes in OT was well done.

Watched the short on South Africa and Robben Island shortly afterwards and I have to say it was a tear jerker. Those guys went through tough times and really make you appreciate the sport even more so than you might now.

I'll say. My youngest daughter wrote a detailed report on Mandela and soccer in SA. Lot of detail I had no idea about.

Anyway, easily the game could have be 4-1, the offside call was fairly lame.

for my birth continent and their first world cup ever

I think the game starts at 10:00 AM EDT which is 7:00 AM PDT. South Africa has home court advantage and the cold weather, Mexican are good with hot and humid weather, I pick South Africa with a score of 3:2.

The second game of the day is France vs Uruguay at 11:30 AM with Uruguay a winner with a score of 2:1

The first of 3 games of each day, after the opening day, starts very early at 4:30 AM PDT.

It's on. Well not quite yet.

Not that cold. Mexico has elevation and practice through this cool winter. Mark it, Mexico will win. France may not.

Yep, the coverage starts at 6:30AM, and after that I will be up early!!!

South africa vs mexico will be low scoring. I predict a mexico win. Feel like taking $10 to the online bookie.

edit: yeah pablo the elevation (4500 feet) and "cold" is nothing special to either SA or Mex.

Oh well - the home opener record stands, amazing really.

robbed, not at all, if the player is standing int he goal and the goalie takes on the attacker, the player int he goal becomes the new "goalie" for offside purposes.

the south african goal was superb, did not see the mexican one.

You are correct.

The Mexican goal was a bit of a lapse on defense. I'm sure you can find it online, now is newshour here so they have been showing because of the amount of Mexican who reside here.

The France game was the low scoring affair. Interesting nonetheless.
