You didn't know that it isn't just a "start up knock" issue?
Some vehicles equipped with a 4.6L 3-valve or 5.4L 3-valve engine may exhibit a ticking and / or knocking noise after reaching normal operating temperature, or a rattle upon starting. The noise may be described as ticks, taps, knocks, or thumps.
Guess what.... it is more than just a start up issue. You've learned something else today.
The quoted TSB applies to 2004 and 2005. And I do believe Ben CLEARLY stated a few posts ago that he's heard an assortment of noises coming from 5.4L engines, all attributed to different things. But he also stated that they were not COMMON.
THAT is the issue.
What's GM's description for the piston slap in the LSx family? "Your engine may sound like an ISX starting in the middle of a Canadian winter upon start-up. This is normal. There is no fix."
Really, this is getting quite ridiculous. You made a rather obtuse comment about "start up HAMMERING" and then have been clawing tooth and nail trying to prove you are "right", now citing a VCT phaser noise TSB as the "proof" of your initial face-slap.
As much as you [censored] and moan, you aren't going to be able to prove that the 5.4L engine is prone to "does it have oil start-up HAMMERING". Because it doesn't.
That would be about as ridiculous as me stating the LSx engines are all quiet on start-up, or that the Mitsubishi 3.0L from the Dodge Caravan didn't burn copious volumes of oil.
