So I received my replacement bearing from RockAuto

I sell to Rock Auto. As most already know, Rock Auto owns zero inventory. I have been to more than one warehouse they use, and the ones I went to are top notch, but yes hiring these days is a mess. The warehouses have the same issues whether it's Rock Auto parts or their own customer base.
We have employee issues at the company I work at too.

The packaging is stupid but as stated if no obvious damage I'd totally run it. Including for my wife. Maybe I'm a horrible person (shrug)
Me too, I am not sweating a busted box. If the bearing is still in the plastic bag or paper and didn't get dinged up and the grease seals are intact that's all that matters. I am not seeing a serious gripe here, an out of balance wheel or bad cv will do more damage to the bearing than the postman could aside from him taking a hammer to it.

I tend to err on the side of caution.. And like I said, it’s not a bolt in process. The knuckle has to come out and the bearing needs to get pressed out/in.. Not an easy task.

You sell to RA?

A bearing is a bearing. They all go by a standardized numbering system in relation to their measurements. If you don't know the standardized number of the bearing, you can measure the bearing and then take those measurements to a bearing chart and get the number. Once you got the number, you can go down to a local industrial supply and get the bearing. Alternatively, you can enter the bearing number into NAPA's search box and get their bearing, but they're going to cost you 3 or 4 times the cost of the industrial supply. My local supply stocks the NACHI brand for some reason. They're a Japanese manufacturer. By the way, bearings are measured in millimeters.

So I googled the address on your envelope picture - 1200 State Fair Blvd Syracuse NY. "united Auto Supply". Maybe someone in the NE has heard of them - I have not.

This is the problem. One day you get parts from a high quality warehouse in a RA box, the next day you get this. I get the same sort of crap from Amazon and Walmart.com also - who are supposed to be gods gift to retailing. Hard to find good help.

I would use the bearing unless there is obvious signs of damage.

I wish there was an option to choose the warehouse.. This is the 3rd screw up from UAS

Plus, the bearing when installed isn’t taking the type of impact like the one it’s faced with during shipping. You can easily pry off the lip cap off of the bearing with a flat screwdriver. This won’t be the type of impact it takes when installed.

I'm sorry, but that's nonsense. During normal operation, a wheel bearing will see loads and forces FAR greater than anything a delivery driver is going to inflict.

As far as RA shipping standards: I just received a set of very inexpensive ($25) brake pads that were packed in a box 2x the part box size with the remaining space filled with air packing and paper packing along with the pick ticket and a magnet. The part box is in pristine condition as was the shipping carton.

What was the ship from address. I don't know why I care which warehouse, but I find it interesting.

I got RA stuff a couple times from Parts Plus warehouses in the midwest somewhere and stuff was perfect. Almost makes me want to pay extra and just order direct from them. I did look it up, and it was about 50% more to order direct than from RA. If I were ordering something expensive or delicate, I will just order direct and pay.

Just use the bearing already. If it doesn't show any signs of damage, use it. This horse is nearly beaten to death. Return for cash. Use that money as a down payment somewhere else. I ordered a small belt sander from China, used Paypal. It shows up a month later with only the tool to adjust the machine. In a box big enough for the whole machine. I tried to stop the payment but the picture of an intact large box on my porch from UPS and the seller saying I was wrong closed the case in their favor. So I ate $30 for an .80 cent wrench. Packaged well! No damage all the way from China!

Congratulations but that wasn’t the case for me and that’s what I’m concerned about.

I have to resonate what you said about Parts Plus. Great packing jobs every time and my stuff came out as if I was handed it in a parts store. The ship from address is in the pic in the first post (United Auto Supply - Syracuse, NY.)

You know, when anyone compares a personal story about their similar experiences, I just don’t care to hear and I apologize if that comes off as rude. Because that doesn’t 1.) Remedy my situation nor has anything to do with me and 2.) Doesn’t magically relieve companies from doing this type of BS to long-time loyal paying customers. So there’s no real point in telling me stuff like that. Again, I apologize if that seems brash but I’m just tired of it. It’s minimizing and devaluing at a person’s situation.

That's like the small padded laptop bag I bought once from B&H Photo. It's padded - right? - so it seems to me a padded envelope or bag would be just fine for it. So they shipped it in a box the size of a wall-mount air-conditioner. With a million packing peanuts....

I had a not too dis-similar problem from a 3rd party seller on Amazon. I was able to win by showing the USPS weight of the package - which is on the postmark. The package weight could not have contained the purchased item inside.

In my case it was a couple hundred bucks - so worth the fight. 30 bucks, maybe not.
