So Amsoil OE == the old XL-7500?

The original XL-7500 was a true base iv synthetic. Sometime around 2003 is when they switched it to base iii.

I don't recall the XL line ever being claimed as being PAO (Group IV) based

Initially when first released it had some/more PAO. It's always been a good oil, IMHO.

She ran it for a LONG time and WAY beyond reason on the miles because of this bad info thinking she was ok doing so.

When I found out what she had done on the previous OC for time and miles I had her do an OC right off and a UOA. I wanted to see if any damage had been done and to see how the oil that was in the vehicle currently was holding up( approx 6 months and 4025 miles ). It showed that at just 4025 miles the OE was finished - done - kaput!

I am not blaming the oil for anything. Just pointing out OE is not some super awesome formula capable of huge extended OCI's. Not in all vehicles anyway. I have seen 1st hand where in one vehicle it barely made 4000 miles. Again, not a bash on it. I would imagine a conventional oil would have been done by 2500-3000 tops in the same situation in her vehicle...... test results were a symptom of carryover from the ridiculous OCI she ran before that OC, or, if it is truly all OE is capable of in her Kia......in her Kia OE did not perform very well. Simple as that.

I'm just glad you made it clear that she had run 25K on OE right before the 4K UOA!

She actually didn't go that many miles but it was way too many( almost 20K but 2 years ).

Si claro. Near 20,000 miles, two years.

Did you say she bought from a dealer or a store?

I base oil quality on specifications met among other things, not just base oil #'s. MaxLife meets dexos 1 and has a stout additive package. I'm not saying it's better, but for the $ it's a good oil.

Can't go wrong with OE or XL, both are very good. Amsoil makes good oil.

Amsoil does make a great product, and I've never seen them make a claim that couldn't be backed up in some way, shape or form. However the OE line is meant to compete with oils such as max life and I would think in terms of longevity and wear protection the 2 oils would be near par with each other.
The XL line is very stout and able to handle longer drain intervals and I think the SSO line is the longest drain oil available on the market when used as per Amsoils directions.
I'll never knock Amsoil. Great products and I use them occasionally when I find a good deal, but with so many good deals out there I find myself using their products less and less.
I'm too OCD to run my oil out to 10000kms never mind the advertised 42000 for the SSO line.

I don't recall the XL line ever being claimed as being PAO (Group IV) based

I don't recall saying you made that claim. And I repeat my question: Why would I want to use a Base 2 when I can get a better Base 3 OE synthetic for only 60 cents more? It makes no sense. Who can't afford to spend an extra candybar worth of oil every 7500 miles?

First of all, ML is a blend and contains II/III base oils. It also has a more robust additive package that has higher detergetns and extra seal conditioners. They are different oils in some ways. So that's why. ...

All oil is cheap IMO.

I wasn't speaking with reference to myself, I was speaking of AMSOIL and the group IV comment. I made no reference to the 2nd part of your post. That's a personal decision.

Did I forget to mention NO FILTER change in there either!

It was through her local Kia garage. One of the service writers was getting it for her and telling her how to do it. He no longer works there.
