I'm just sayin, don't blame the oil.
I wasn't blamming the oil. WHERE did I in any way blame the oil for anything?
I simply pointed out that the OE is not the same as the old XL( Pablo pointed that out too )and that after just 4K the OE run in my Aunt's Kia was done( UOA results showed it so ). When people say such and such brand of oil
IS good for X # of miles as a fact and not a suggested possibility it can lead to problems. You need to verify it via UOA's.
I would have assumed like everyone that OE should be ok for 6000-7500 miles or so in just about any application. Didn't turn out that way in my Aunt's Kia though. I had her do a UOA after hearing that she was given very bad info that OE could be run to intervals requiring the Signature Series line( year+ and 25K ). She ran it for a LONG time and WAY beyond reason on the miles because of this bad info thinking she was ok doing so.
When I found out what she had done on the previous OC for time and miles I had her do an OC right off and a UOA. I wanted to see if any damage had been done and to see how the oil that was in the vehicle currently was holding up( approx 6 months and 4025 miles ). It showed that at just 4025 miles the OE was finished - done - kaput!
I am not blamming the oil for anything. Just pointing out OE is not some super awesome formula capable of huge extended OCI's. Not in all vehicles anyway. I have seen 1st hand where in one vehicle it barely made 4000 miles. Again, not a bash on it. I would imagine a conventional oil would have been done by 2500-3000 tops in the same situation in her vehicle.
I am going to have her do another OC this summer and have that oil tested to see if the previous test results were a symptom of carryover from the ridiculous OCI she ran before that OC, or, if it is truly all OE is capable of in her Kia? If it comes back similar again( only going to 3500 miles this time )I wiill have her step up to the XL line.
For the last time not bashing Amsoil or blamming anything. The results are what they are and in her Kia OE did not perform very well. Simple as that.
