Snow

We got the freezing drizzle here in Cedar Rapids. It was warm enough at one point that I could scrape the ice off my car, but the stuff kept coming all day. Gimme plain ol' snow, please.

Nasty, sticky, and slimy in New Orleans. Gonna hit 82 today (in flippin' December!!!), and the humidity this morning was nearly 100%. The streets are damp, and yet it hasn't rained. Disgusting.

Driving back from breakfast this morning, I felt a sensation James Lee Burke describes in one of his novels -- that the sweat ran down my sides like trails of ants.

The idea of a little freezing drizzle or snow sounds so good to me right now. . . .

We got about 1/2" of snow Saturday night in Detroit. Wifey and I were partying hard at a hotel, planning to spend the night anyway and the kiddo was with Grandma and Grandpa, so all was well.

Yesterday was MISERABLE all day. Fog, sleet and lots of rain. Good for washing the snow away at least. Today is better, but not much.

The street crew came and fixed the washed out portion of the road below us. I've never seen geysers like that (4-5' high) come out of the storm drains........the main fault wasn't so much the HUGE rain and tons of melting snow, but lack of maintenance downstream.

Could have used a little edit time........

Anyhow yesterday AM when we took that picture it was about 9 AM and about 31°F. This AM it was 52°F. That snowball was the size of a volleyball this afternoon.

Pablo,
the town where I spent most of my formative years had hotmix roads...repairs were to grind off the top, and redo the hot mix.

About 18 years ago, they changed their "maintenance" to spraying on some bitumen, then rolling some gravel into it...broken windscreens everywhere.

Did that for a few years, then it rained hevily. drains couldn't cope. Why ?

They were full of gravel.

We've gotten a little more snow and ice since my last post. I haven't always been able to resist the urge to find empty (or minimally populated) parking lots and slide around in my AWD Subaru.
