Smoking banned INSIDE pubs and clubs.

I love the smoking ban in place in some parts of my state in bars and in workplaces. The wife and I finally went out for the first time in years and had a great time playing pool without getting smoke all over our clothes/hair/car/home.

Did the other Aussies see what happened with a Supreme Court ruling a few weeks back ?
All the clubs and pubs are frantically installing outdoor smoking areas at a reasonable expense, generally an awning and semi-fenced enclosure for smoking.
Unfortunately the Supreme Court ruled in a test case of Dubbo Shire council vs the local RSL (I think) that these were part of the premises and hence had to remain smoke free......

Business opportunity: a bar for nicotine patch wearers.

Speaking of the patch, can you wear it in public in OZ, or would it be setting a bad example?

tdi-rick, I didn't see that, but I'm not surprised.

Local clubs have done their darndest to create an "outdoor indoors", with bare minimum "natural" ventilation systems...not surprised that they got canned.

I think the forced ventilation special room option was probably best, but the OH and S stuff for the staff still remains.

Mori, I think that patches are OK.

Pee is sterile (usually) and doesn't spread disease, but if a pool allowed people to pee in it, would you still go there (or even support their right to allow people to pee in it as they see fit ?)

Amusing comparison. Got me thinking, naively, that some people probably pee in public pools anyway. I'll stick to the river and lakes, which are certainly also not urine-free. At least I don't have to experience the chlorine though, and the dog can join me!

I wouldn't go to pool like that, but I'd support its right to exist without subsidies.

They used to tell us in Primary School that they had a chemical in the water that turned red when peed in...we didn't want to test out that theory, and were paranoid about even a drip in the speedos brought to the pool.

At least smoking doesn't need air dye.

Give them full face respirators to don before entering the room.

That's what they told us in elementary school, only they claimed the water would turn blue. Public indoor and outdoor pools are common in Germany, and I never saw any evidence of such an indicator dye actually being used. I never ran a test...

People constantly spit saliva and snort mucus and snot in the pool. Is that any better than urine?

I used to swim in public pools all the time in Germany. Never got as much as an ear infection. I gave up going into any pool after moving to the US. Foot fungus is rampant in this country. I have no idea why. I prefer the ocean with all its tar, chemicals, and great whites.

Horse poo is the best kind of poo there is.

Well, ...hmmm..I'd say horse apples are easier to clean up compared to cow patties.

Ever play apple toss?

Let me tell you a very sad story. We have a borrowed (MIA) freezer called a Tuckerbox, and just that a box without shelves. Been looking at 2nd hand vertical freezers so the wife can find what she wants easily. Picked up the local paper late on a Saturday a few weeks ago and find 'vertical freezer 380 litre purchased Sept 2008, paid $1,510 sell $500 ONO! Now it was 7:00am and most stuff is gone by then. Rang at 7:30am and amazingly still available. I hot foot it over the border to Queanbeyan in NSW and sure enough brand new. She explained breathlessly that she just wanted a quick sale and no haggling. Told me she had just been diagnosed with emphysaema but here's the rub, she has never smoked. But she sat next to a boss who chain smoked. Just shows how dangerous cigarette smoke is.
