There are small engines out there with pressurized oil systems. I took apart a 12-horse Kohler years ago that, instead of an oil pump, had a check valve and little plunger driven by an eccentric on the crankshaft. That plunger pumped oil through the filter and into the oil galleys. There are briggs & stratton engines out there- even really small ones- with oil filters, and I assume that they must have a pressurized lube system similar to that Kohler.

The engine runs between 1700 and 4000 RPMs depending on load. It rarely needs to go over 2000.

No, I'm not "re-engineering" anything. I'm simply adding a pump. That's like saying adding a bypass filter to a car is re-engineering it's oil system. It isn't.

The oil pump will be driven off the auxiliary PTO that comes off the cam, which turns at 1/2 the speed of the engine. The amount of flow it produces really doesn't make much difference, since it's not lubing the engine.

The oil level isn't a concern, as the engine has low oil shutdown, but once the system is primed the level won't change.
