I am having an issue getting the Slide Stop to seat fully on my Dan Wesson Pointman. It seats fully in the first two photographs, but when I move the slide in the position to lock it in place, it will not seat. Last two photographs are with the slide removed and it’s fully seated. Is this something I can fix or do I need a Gunsmith. To top it off I put the infamous scratch on it.

Assuming your slide, barrel and recoil spring/guide are correctly installed - You just need a bit more force - make certain that the slide cutout is properly aligned - and press harder.

You’re compressing the slide stop plunger to get it to seat. On some guns it helps to have it about 1/8” below where it needs to be, and press both upward and inward to compress the slide stop plunger and move the slide stop to fully seat.

Got it Thanks!

If you look at the back of the slide stop - there is a tiny bevel, machined into it to compress the slide stop plunger. You’re using that bevel to compress the plunger.

Worst case - send it back to Dan Wesson - they have great customer service.

But if it was fully seated and the gun was running, there is likely nothing wrong with the fitting of the slide stop itself, just a matter of the right amount/direction of force to get it back in.

Thanks again. I was able to reassemble it!

Astro gave you what you needed. Many times the ugly scaring comes from not having the barrel linkage lined up correctly prior to inserting the stop. On a new gun that is a little tight it helps to lube the stop (I do it every time even on 1911's with 10k and over down the tube).

Great choice BTW. Good gun.

My Dan Wesson (a Razorback 10mm) is now* a fine gun.

Best trigger of just about anything I own, and I am both a 1911 and 10mm fan.

Your Pointman is a fine gun, a really nice choice.

*It had issues when I first got it, but Dan Wesson fixed it and I had no issues getting them to do it under warranty. A long story, with its own BITOG thread.

Have you tried contacting Dan Wesson customer service? I just had an issue with my 20 year old Kahr PM9's slide stop and failing to lock slide open on empty mag. I told them it happens on all 5 of my mags. Guy on phone said that the PM9 has a lifetime warranty. Gave my email and same day, they emailed me a shipping label, and shipped out the whole handgun on their dime 2 day air.

I sent it out on a Tuesday and they had it at my house the following Monday. No cost to me. Works fine now.
