Only you GM guys would think that makes it better, LOL!

I'd love to see one with a 1,000HP TT Termi swap. But that's more $$$$. And that's usually the determining factor in these types of builds.

You betcha. Budget is an important factor, and the fact is that people literally can raid a junkyard for those cheap GM pieces and make a very credible sleeper.

But real car guys love cars, period.

Yeah...the GTO is known to be quick...and it's easy to add a blower to a GM small block...so, I would expect it to be fast.

It's the luxobarge, station wagon, or economy car, that wasn't supposed to be fast that makes for a sleeper...

The T5 is a mild sleeper...no one expects a Volvo wagon to move like it does, and with the bilsteins, swaybars, big brakes, etc. it handles too...

The S600 isn't an AMG, and doesn't have the sport package, it's very subtle... It's shocked a couple of sports car owners, but anyone that knows about cars knows that the big V-12 TT puts 470HP to the rear wheels...so it's not a sleeper to anyone who knows what the "600" on the deck lid means...but some folks are surprised how quick that big car truly is...(12.5 @ 115 stock, if you were wondering...)

I did not read all 7 pages, so apologies if it was already mentioned, but how about the fastest stock, off the showroom floor, 'estate' (wagon) on this planet; the CTS V wagon??!!

Mine would be modded/boosted up to ~850 or so ponies/'torques' to the wheels (to take care of any of the pesky modded Teutonphiles out there), and would not even have the standard chrome wheels to give anything away.

MANY (even a lot of/most 'enthusiasts') have NO CLUE what this thing is, nor what it is capable of.

All I mean is we obviously disagree and won't change our minds so why keep arguing.

I had a true sleeper.....'58 Ford two door wagon rustbucket with a 352ci Police Interceptor and true dual exhaust. It had 3 on the tree and pull out overdrive making it a 5 speed. As long as you didn't need to turn or stop nothing could even get close to it. Won many a C-Note with that old beast.

A totally unintended factory sleeper is the 2006-2012 RAV4 V-6. You just don't expect a granny mobile like this to do anything but putt putt around. We own two.

grandma's polara, add slicks and headers to get a low 11/high 10 second car

this is my favorite, the ultimate sleeper in my mind, but there are lots of others

By the time you see the 2.4 Turbo High Output badge on the tailgate, it's too late:

Not a real quick car, but if you are expecting a 10 second 0-60 regular garden variety PT Cruiser, you might get a good look at that tailgate badge instead.

"Yeah."

"uhhhhhh...."
"And the hatch."
"Uhhhh.....yeah, it's JDM."
"Don't feel bad, they left out the rear diff on my 'Speed6, and the turbocharger, and added a couple of extra cylinders, and put the wrong transmission in....and built it in a different factory....

A guy who lives up the street from my BIL has a dead stock 1993 325i which has an M3 emblem on the trunk. I keep hoping I'll run into him so I can tell him,
"Gosh, neat car! Except for the wheels, the front airdam, the side molding, the side skirts, the mirrors, the rear valence, the seats, and the exhaust, it looks just like a real M3."

I've never understood this. Slapping the "Type-R" or "GT-R" badge on any old car. Anyone who cares about the "GT-R" badge, knows your Chevy Cavalier is not a "GT-R" and that there is zero chance your Hyundai is a "Type-R".

Gotta be something that just doesn't look fast to be really sleepy!

The appearance of the 2004-2006 GTO made it a sleeper by making it look like the regular Pontiac Gran Prix.
Unfortunately, so many people wanted the GTO to look like it did in the 60s and 70s, that it couldn't succeed in sales.

Anyway, I just thought of another car that many people used as a sleeper: The 1994-1996 Chevy Caprice SS.

Your comments made me think about when I had a 2002 Jetta turbo. The car had a small emblem that said "1.8T" and 2 brushed stainless exhaust tips to separate it from the ordinary Jetta. It was lots of fun. The car had very little turbo lag, it was more like driving a 12V VR6.

I don't know how many people I passed who put a bunch of stupid stuff on their basic Honda or Acura.

I'd think a supercharged Buick Park Avenue would qualify. Nobody would expect a grandparent-mobile to move as quickly as one of those does. And, unless one spots the dual exhausts and Ultra badging, it's just another Park Ave.

The Pontiac Bonneville also was like that. Turn off traction control and you could liquefy the front tires in short order.

That's what I'm hoping to find, a good condition Ultra. Two hundred and forty horsepower doesn't sound like much compared to some of the monster engines in this thread -- but the surprise value would be priceless.
