Let me start by saying my sister is okay overall, which I am so grateful for. She was driving through an intersection when a man went through a red light, hit her rear quarter which sent her head-on into a concrete traffic light pole. The front and side airbags deployed in addition to the front, side and rear damage to her car. Unfortunately there was no camera footage and no one stopped to be a witness, so both parties are at fault/ not at fault (whatever you want to say). Long story short, she didn't have full coverage so she walks away with no check from insurance. She just got the car a few months ago, so I know she is bummed. Again, so glad she is ok! I hope the guy that hit her gets taken care of in some way.

The one picture I got doesn't do the reality justice.

Glad she is okay. Though people usually say older Hondas are tin cans, I found them pretty safe.

Just wondering - how is she at fault if the other driver went through a red light? She should be at no fault.

Similar incident happened to my wife few months ago, she wasn't at fault and we got the check from insurance company even though we didn't have collision coverage. Dash cam footage made our lives much easier.

If the man went through a red light, how are both parties at fault? Makes no sense.

No coverage because both parties said the light was green. No hard proof to say either way. It sucks!

Never heard of Hondas being referred to tin cans in that regard. They are some of the safest!

Don't the police have a unit that can reconstruct the accident?
The unknown is the status of the light at the time, as opposed to the dynamics of the collision. There won't be any question about where in the intersection the crash occurred, how the vehicles were oriented, direction of travel, etc. In the absence of video or a credible, non-biased witness (who are still often wrong), there's no way to know who had the green.

Also, if nobody is seriously injured, you're not likely to get a collision reconstruction from the police. That's what insurance companies pay engineers for - except in this case, it's easier just to assign 50/50 blame and jack up both parties' premiums, or wipe out their accident forgiveness.

That's the reason why everyone should have a dash cam, no matter cheap or expensive, or a beater.

Go back to the accident site and look around for cameras mounted on buildings, lamp posts or houses. What is the address of the collision, we can use google maps to look for a camera?

Glad she's ok.

*** Reminder to all to get a dash cam ***

I was just about to put mine in the Jeep when I had an accident a few weeks ago. Luckily the last admitted fault. It was pretty obvious in my case though.

Glad to hear she's okay. I am surprised she didn't have collision on her insurance, that Accord probably is valued over $10k.
I tried to talk them into it, but at her age the payment was just too much. Sometimes you just can't swing it.

No cameras in area. Already said that.

Glad she's OK. I know driver's will sometimes fail to claim responsibility for their actions. I drove for years without insurance and feel real lucky something bad did not happen. Perhaps you can help your sister out at this time. Good luck.
