Hey folks, my sister was involved in an accident.
She is fine; she was driving her 2004 Explorer when a lady pulled out and hit her pass. side. Luckily she and my 2-yr-old nephew are fine. But the Exploder is probably going to be totaled. Too bad, as they just spent beaucoups of $$$ getting the transmission rebuilt.
Anyway, I'm trying to steer her towards something Japanese. Not really sure what all she would consider; her rental is a Suburban and she likes it. Today she mentioned something about a Tahoe.
I think she wants something fairly large - I don't think she'd consider anything like a mid-sized car. Not even sure she'd entertain the idea of a large car. She might.
As I mentioned, they have a 2-year-old, and will probably have another kid within the next couple of years. In the past, they have mentioned the Sienna and Odyssey.
Personally I think a Sienna or even a Highlander or a Lexus RX (for the right deal) would be nice choices.
I've read here that Honda FWD V6s have transmission problems. But the problem was fixed after a certain model year? What are the years to avoid? Did any of the Toyota FWD V6s suffer problems?
The reasons I'm trying to steer her away from a large SUV like a Tahoe and towards something mid-size, FWD, V6 are:
- efficiency
- reliability
- easier to maneuver & park (all her driving is urban/suburban - almost all city streets, grocery store parking lots, gym, etc)
They are buying used. Thankfully, the Exploder was paid for. They'll probably get around 5-6 grand for it. They're not in a position to buy anything outright, and my bro-in-law doesn't work on cars at all. So they need something with fairly low miles, reliable, preferably with some factory warranty left on it.
Her husband works for FedEx, and is a member of the credit union, so that's where they'll likely borrow the funds from. I'm trying to encourage them to stay away from the dealer and buy from an individual (unless they can find a sweet deal on a certified used vehicle).
Anyway, I appreciate y'all's input. I respect the opinions of those here, and I just wanted to bounce some ideas off you guys in this thread, and possibly some prices when we find some potential vehicles.
And, if anyone here in the TN-ARK-MS area has something for sale that sounds like something they'd consider, by all means let me know!
