Cleaning out closets for Goodwill..
Ran across a Sirius boom box with car adapter setup I purchased in 3/26/08 still have the emailed invoice.
I put it away like 10 years ago.
I plugged it in and see it updating which took over an hour...to my surprise it is receiving all the channels and I gave up that subscription back 10 years ago.

It actually is nice for late night news and stuff like that. I did not expect it to work.

Okay, jog my memory here....
Was it Sirius that offered a "subscription for life" at one time when they were in dire straits?

I am wondering about that...
I think I paid about $70 a year back then...

I still have the very first XM boom box I think it dates back from 2003; I cancelled the service a long ago; everything works on it I can imagine but no reception because it is inactive status since 2004 I'd say

I will dig up mine tomorrow.
It is a good bit different.
You can tell that is older

You can get 90 days of Sirius XM for $2.00. Set a reminder a few days before the promo is over (been doing this for over a year) and then call up customer service. You will be transferred to the Philippines and if you sweet talk one of the customer service reps, they can renew the promo. If not cancel it and call back in a few days. You can get a whole year of service for like $8. You need to bargain a bit, may be uncomfortable but worth it.

this was my car a long, long time ago, you can see at the roof the black spot/ XM external antenna

Yes. Early 2000’s. It was Lifetime until the radio stopped working. Then they would charge a $75 fee to transfer your lifetime subscription service over to your new radio. IIRC, there was some sort of Class action lawsuit involving this practice.

they were still doing that into 2010. I have a Tuner boxed up that I had with an aftermarket HU in my Neon that I put a lifetime sub on.
the lifetime sub cost $500, Vs the $188/yr i'm paying now....( and i'm not on the most expensive plan, I keep getting offers to add more channels for just $5 more a month.)

cancel your sub...wait a bit and they will bombard you with $5 month offers to renew . Renew again for a year, cancel...and repeat.

I still have an old, add on Sirius radio in my van with the external antennae (old boom box is still in my office). Have it built into my newer Ford Edge. Will be cancelling both subs next month to start the process all over, again.

Pretty cool!. The Elantra and Sonata both have SiriusXM, and i use the app on smart TV, App on Iphone, Stream via the web, and even an Alexa skill!. Love it!. I pay $16.98 a month for a year - both cars and every streaming option.
