I'm new to this board, and after reading through various topics, I felt I needed to ask before I waste anymore time...

Am I OK running Redline 5W-30 Synth in my Mazdaspeed 3?? I figured a high powered, high compression, Direct-Injected 4 cyl could only benefit from a good racing oil

Thanks

Hmmm can't modify my post..

Forget to mention this is the "Turbo engine" after the "direct Injected" part not NA..

Can you explain the reasoning for Maxima Ultra 4 0W30 being superior?

You're doing good! Haven't seen redline UOA from this engine yet, are you interested enough? Redline seems like an ideal choice for this engine though.

I need to look into how to test the oil, or more specifically, have the oil tested.

I would recommend Terry Dyson.......He is a site sponsor, and does oil analysis. Probably the most respected person on this board. His website is here.

I wasn't happy with the results that I got with Mobil 1 and am running Pennzoil Platinum currently. I would expect Redline to do as well as any, run it and find out via UOA.

brecker, you might want to try and find the UOAs on the other MS3 engines and see the common problem of fuel dilution. Maybe try 3-4k miles for your OCI with your first UOA and go from there. Those DI turbo engines are a little hard on the oil, but they put down some very impressive whp stock.

This is a turbocharged 2.3 liter engine producing 263 bhp. I think I would at least use a good 5W30 as the factory requires. After warranty expires, I would use a European spec 5W40, or at least a heavy 30 weight like GC 0W30.

Are you actually using their racing oil. Red Line according to my pamphlet does not makes a 5w-30 racing oil. You stated at the bottom of your post about using a good racing oil. Using a racing oil is not good due to the fact of having no detergents in the oil. Racing oil is for racing engines that get taken apart alot cleaned/rebuilt.

You mean passenger car oil isn't the same oil that is used in NASCAR and other forms of racing? I should trust an oil brand simply because of a sticker on my favorite drivers car?
