Hey looking for some advice I have a 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe with the 2.4. it's whole life of 186000 miles has been on 5 20. Now I am wondering if switching to a 5 30 would be beneficial to me for more longevity? I would like this to make it to 300k. My book says it can use 5 30 but 5 20 preferred. Probably for Cafe. I live in southern MO. My main concern is timing chain wear and best longevity. Please advise.

5W-30 and 10W-30 are both fine. I have ran 5W-30 in mine for the vast majority of the time, but have done on OCI or two on 5W-20 and 0W-40. Yes, 5W-30 will offer better protection than 5W-20. Will either one play a consequential role in your engine's ability to make it to 300k? Unlikely. More frequent oil changes will be much more important than viscosity.

Probably won't make a difference. I'm using 5w30 in my theta 2 now. In summer I tend go thick so it won't get thinned by the heat. 0w20 in winter.
Another thing is 5w30 typically have dexos certification, if you mind.

5w30 in the winter (Nov-Apr) and 5w40 (May-Oct) in the summer. Use synthetic and don't let the dipstick oil level fall below a half-quart low.

Oh no stay with a nice quality 5w20 that’s more than enough to get you to 300K . Going to a 5w30 will stretch that motor out . 🤓🤓😂✌🏽✌🏽

My sisters '10 Sante Fe with the 2.4 gets a variety of oils.
I have used 5w-20, 5w-30 and 10w-30 in it since I have been maintaining it for the past 80,000 miles (currently just turned over 200,000 miles).
Currently has Traveller's 10w-30 synthetic in it. Doing 7,500 mile interval on it with her driving style (may drive 200 miles one day, and 10 miles the next 5).
No idea what it got at the oil change place she used before.

It does use about a qt of oil every 5,000 miles or so, no difference in what viscosity is used.

Our 2022 Crosstrek has been on 0w20 for the past 6 OCI’s. 7th OC I switched to 0w30 Mobil1 AFE and didn’t really notice anything different. On the 8th OC I just did with 0w30 Mobil1 ESP and a MicroGard Select OF from Oreilly’s. It seems a little quieter. Idk maybe just in my head lol!

Using CASTROL Advanced w/Titanium 5w-30 ( S.P-GF-6A ) for the '18 Accent . No change in gas mileage . Have used P.P. 5w-30 from late fall to late spring with no loss of gas mileage or other issues .

I've even thought 5 20 in winter and 5 30 summer. What about timing chain protection? Pump ability and all that?
