As Bill mentioned, you don't "need" a syn oil, you just prefer one. Mobil Clean 5000 or Pennzoil Conventional will serve you well. If you're not comfortable with that, PP is sold at Walmart for 20/5qt jug.
And I guess (I've not been able to find it yet) PP for $5 after rebate. At that price I'd buy ANY oil!

$1 a quart is a deal any way you look at it.

You and Gary Allan remain a couple of my favorite posters, so I do value what you say. That, coupled with the fact you have the same vehicle I do is stands out with me.

I think it was your posts and used oil analysis that got me on the Pennzoil,
MC5000, whatever SM dino is on sale bandwagon and it has worked for me thus far.

I just get this idea in my brain that 5w30 conventional has the consistency of molasses below 0, but I realize it does not.

Take care,

Jon in WI

ETA: I have noticed a dozen posts here recently that say "used oil analysis are not indicative of an oil's performance". What the heck is going on around here?

Good to see you back!

(at the risk of sounding like a broken record) thanks for the kind words!

The used oil analysis do not matter are from the crowd whose favorite brand does not so good in them so they don't matter. Now if their brand does good, then the used oil analysis are good.

Same with color.. If their oil is golden light brown when they change it its because the oil has kept the insides of the engine clean or its a robust oil that is worth the $$ they paid.

If the color is dark it is because its worth its weight in gold and its cleaning the engine out from all the stuff that "cheap" oils left...

See if you run a expensive oil (esp if its a certain brand) then you do not need used oil analysis. Spend the $$ on better oil. I guess that oil can prevent head gasket leaks and such. (wish I knew that for both of my head gasket leaks that used oil analysis caught before damage)

Its a different BITOG now..

Take care, Bill

PS: I agree that a heater is the cats meow IF you have plug ins on both ends of the trip.

With the lengths some of you oil nutters go to I'd expect you to jump at the chance to cut cold starts in half at least (plug in one location).

Just as a comment on that here...

I have ran Pennzoil 5w30 conventional in mine in those temperatures and get excellent analysis results along with good cold weather starting.

In two winters of running that oil and starting in those kinds of temperatures and colder... by little Neon has *never* failed to start.
