Shopping: do you already know what you are buying?

Shopping: do you already know what you are buying?

No, not until I check the supply list base camp commander gave me when I left the house. Since I usually just jet down to the local WalMart I get to enjoy the kinetic and diverse scenery inside the store. Makes shopping fun.

Most men come in the door walking briskly with their head down, they’re on a mission. Most women casually saunter in and immediately start looking at tags and saying the words ‘that’s cute’ every other breath.

Generally, probably 95% of the time. But I do check around to see if I missed an item when scanning the sales online, and if it's something we'll use, I buy that as well.

Starbucks...ugh. I used to stop there regularly on the way to the train, but I missed too many trains because someone ahead of me was putting more thought into their grande mocha-smoka-latte-chino purchase than I did when I bought my house. At 5.30AM, the coffee order should be simple, or at least know what you want and don't try to learn the menu.

I made mine at home for a while after I stopped with Starbucks, but then Speedway opened a station near my house. I like their Colombian Blend and at 5.30AM, at this location at least, it was mostly trades-people and they didn't have time to peruse the menu or chat up the clerk. I was able to get in and out fast enough to make up for the fact that the station was a bit out of my way and always made my train.

wwillson nailed it.

My motto to the wife:

Women shop. Men buy.
Women don't even know how to shop properly. When you go into a store and you're not sure what you want, you make a quick transit of the store to reconnoiter and see what's in stock, taking stock of likely items. Then from most likely to least likely, one goes back for a closer look.

Wives on the other hand walk in and are like, "Sqeee!! Shiny!!! Oh, look at this. Hey, squirrel!!! I wanna pet it... Ooh, look, shiny!! It's only $2000 dollars! Do you think my sister would look good in this?"

Usually I have an idea of what I’m there for but I’m a sucker for clearance items especially if it’s something I can resell so I usually end up buying way more than I intended too lol. I’ve also been guilty of just going to stores too look around because I get bored. Back when Walmart and Advance Auto in this area used to be open 24/7 I’d go hang out and look around for hours with my parents and it was so fun. Of course that usually turned into getting stuff too lol.

Wife does a lot of clearance shopping at various stores. Standing joke is that it will cost me at least $25 or more to go to a Walmart bathroom stop.

When I shop I go in to get what I need and leave. I even put things in order say at the grocery store so I go in one side and out the other. Walk in get friluits and veggies then bread then soda then meat and finally exit by passing the frozen food it has less time to thaw out.

When going to say Baskin Robbins do you know what you want or do you stare at the buckets of ice cream and keep taking samples while the line behind you backs up?

I got sent to Target this morning. Not somewhere I would choose to shop myself but whatever.

I was then asked to go to the starbucks inside the target( another store I would never patronize if I had a choice) ahead of me are 2 large families of 5 and another of 6. None of the people in those families could decide on what they wanted.

Took them 30 minutes to decide what they wanted.

If I go somewhere I'm getting chocolate ice cream or Valvoline Restore and Protect etc.. Nothing else normally although I may check out the clearance section.

Normal or not?
Yes...
You're not alone here.
I consider myself a professional shopper.
Respect for my fellow humans and their time first, efficiency for me second.
I find the world around me operates a lot better this way.
I try to be fast but never at the expense of stepping on other's toes.
If I find I'm behind people like your ice cream and Starbucks examples, I've often just walked out.
I don't need anything bad enough that I feel like starngling some mannerless stranger. I mean I feel like strangling them but take the high road and get away from them in an effort to restore inner peace. Whatever that is:unsure:

I normally make a list per store and stores are arranged in order of driving direction, saved in ColoNote phone app. I can delete item/items as I get them or add something if I forget or wife wants something, can delete entire list too. Sure, sometimes I see something I like and grab it or treat myself with something. I don't enjoy shopping process so I'm and out is the theme.
