Ok, the USA has a law enforcement problem you say, and this problem has nothing to do with guns? How can I possibly argue with that
Have any of you heard of:
1. illegal wire tapping by the leaders of your country
2. free speech suppression through the patriot act's I and II
3. sending men and women into harms way based on lies to the people.
4. corporate fraud that has cost billions to regular people and rocked the energy sector to it's core.
5. etc, etc
I know 4 hours a day of cnn is good and all, but there's more to reality if you dig a little deeper.
Our parliament ('like' your congress) has to debate newly implemented restrictive USA laws regularly with respect to how they will affect the privacy of our citizens. A perfect example is the new 'no fly list' that all airlines flying through USA air space must comply with. Your government will now have a list of every person, regardless of nationality, that flies through your air space, even if it never touches down in the USA. Example, flight from Montreal to Vancouver skims the 49th parallel, and your leaders get details of every person on that plane. Funny how they call it a 'no fly list', when it should be called a 'all-fly-list'. Double speak? 1984 anyone?
There are more laws in the USA that restrict your real freedom then you realize, while propaganda that gives you the illusion of being the only 'free' country in the world.
I'd live in Oz and wouldn't think twice about it. I'm actually considering spending winter there.. these canadian winters are killing me. I've had half a dozen job offers in the USA (all for more money) and have turned every one of them down for many of the reasons I listed above. Maybe my reality is skewed, but I don't think so and your crime stats back me up. We can argue all day about the cause of the high gun crime rate, whether economic, cultural, social, etc. The reality is there IS a problem, and it is NOT getting better. Logic tells me more guns won't make it better either. And don't get me started on your media... every media outlet using Paris Hilton's ridiculous jail time as their 'main' story for a few weeks doesn't do much for the social fabric of your country. Ok, now that I've peeved off the majority on this board, I apologize... I don't know why I'm so passionate about affairs in another country.. maybe because it's soo close to home
I don't have the answers, just opinions
