I developed a case of singles about 3 weeks ago. The affected area is my right-side head above my eye including my eyelid. I got an antivirus medication and some salve. How long does this condition normally last from those have had it?

It depends, everyone is different
My father had shingles and it lasted some time (weeks)

My recommendation is to buy some black garlic capsules and cut back on bread and dairy for a while, just like you might with a cold

Good Luck, it’s never fun.

I think he meant shingles.

Be very careful with the eye infection. Someone in my office got it there and it affected his vision. He eventually lost sight in his eye. A good reason to get the Shingles vaccine like Shingrix if eligible.

And here I thought the OP was talking about dollar bills. Father had shingles at one time when living. I got the shot when I turned 65 so hoping to avoid them. At the time of my shot there was just one shot. Hopefully that is enough

Wife had shingles three years ago still having nerve pain couple times a month. Nerver we t to her face lect shoulder and center of back. She even had the shot a year before.

Shingles shot is not 100% effective, unfortunately.

I had shingles a few years ago. Very painful. The doc put me on a steroid regimen and I felt a lot better the next day. I had the same symptoms as you. Took about three weeks to get mostly better. Unfortunately that nerve above my eye would flare up from time to time. It gradually decreased but would have occasional mild symptoms with that nerve for about three years. If not getting a lot better ask about steroids.

I'm signing up for the shingles vaccine soon. Never had the chicken pox but I had the vaccine a few years ago when I worked on the vaccine at Merck. It's rare that I would get the shingles but I would like to minimize my chances.

Got it like you, but on my left side. Scalp, forehead and eyelid. General practice Dr. prescribed medication and referred me to an opthamologist. It stopped just short of doing eye damage. If I had delayed the antivirus I might well have lost vision in my left eye.
For me it took about 10 days to resolve, but I understand everyone is different.
If you haven't already seen an eye doctor you should ask your regular doctor if that would be advised.

To the OP, with the location of your shingles outbreak, do NOT hesitate to visit an ophthalmologist. My wife is over 65, she contracted shingles 20 months ago and it affected the same area of her face, forehead and right eye. She looked like former heavyweight boxer George Chuvalo after a beating by Ali. The eye specialist wants to make sure your eye does not become damaged by the virus. This is a major concern. Other bad news: 20 months later she still gets daily but short lived shingles incidents of pain and burning above her eye. I'm not providing medical advice here. Just see an eye specialist.

I had the first dose of the shingles vaccine. It made me really sick. Heard the second dose is worse. Don't know if I'll get it. Sometimes the cure is worse than the disease.
If you think the side effects of the Shingrix vaccine are bad, you have no idea how bad shingles can be.

I developed shingles at 42 and it absolutely changed my life. For me it appeared on the right side of my torso both front and back. Shingles interferes with your nervous system so it is a pain like you've never felt. It is like your nervous system is trying to cramp and curl up into a little ball but your skeleton prevents it from doing so. And the pain you feel is the result of this nervous system hyper cramp.

I was unable to sleep for more than 1 or 2 hours a day for about 6 weeks. The only way I could approach any degree of comfort was to pace slowly through my house just to pass the time. I'm not sure if the shingles pain or the sleep deprivation was worse.

For. Six. Weeks.

And God help me if any breeze or even forced air heating would blow across my skin. The pain was just terrible terrible terrible hot lave flowing across your skin.

This is nothing to mess around with or minimize. I hope you or any one else never experiences what I did.

Get the vaccine. Get both doses.
Get over the side effects.
Get on with your life.

And God help anyone that get shingles in their eye or their cracks and crevices.

research shows that its a latent virus after chickenpox that can flare up especially when over 60 YO + your immune system is a bit weak, so like many other health issues better eating + some vitamins because modern food is poorly grown lacking many benefits it had years ago! of course limit sugars + the foods that quickly turn to sugar like grains + starches because controlling insulin is key to stay healthy. good luck for a speedy recovery!!

I had shingles in 2019 in the same area as the OP. I had daily visits with my optomologist for about 2 weeks to insure the infection didn't enter the eye.

About a week after the rash subsided I developed an intense sensitivity to light that lasted about 6 weeks. At its worst, sitting in my windowless office at work with the lights out and sunglasses on, the only light coming from my computer monitor was still painful. The overnight the sensitivity stopped.

I wouldn't wish shingles on my worst enemy.

Controlling insulin is the key to preventing shingles? Please. Just stop.
