Shell Rotella Gas Truck oil

Shell Rotella Gas Truck 5w30 and other grades is a great oil for gas trucks and heavy duty use in cars, IMO. I hope that Shell hasn't discontinued it, but they might have. Any thoughts about this?

It's still available from Walmart online.

No idea. Truck & SUV is currently $24.97 at Wally.

RGT was a very poor choice for a name. Rotella is embedded in the mind of diesel owners. Now, "Formula Shell Truck and SUV", or a variation of that name would have been a more successful pitch. Or so I think.

Maybe for some. I think many just associate Rotella with excellence. The name Gas Truck was quite descriptive of its purpose, IMO. Though Gas Truck & SUV would have been even better.

Maybe so. Sometimes we don't know why management & bean counters make the decisions they do. They're not always right. I work in both IT & marketing departments as low/mid management in a real estate development and apt owning and managing company. I'm in regular contact with, and working with, the bean counters in accounting and upper management. I'm low to mid management.

I sometimes see bean counters and upper management make mistakes, but they never get fired nor held accountable because they hold the power. Only those below them are sometimes held accountable if they make mistakes.

That's the business world in general. I'm sure Shell is no different. While I can't know their reasoning for canceling Gas Truck, and I don't know if it was a good or bad business decision on their part, I observe many customers say online that it was great stuff and they miss it.

Shell Rotella Gas Truck 5W-30 has becoming popular lately because SUVs and pickup trucks are popular, and this oil claims to be tailored for them. However, is it for real or a marketing hype? I just did a quick calculation for it and Shell Rotella T6 Multivehicle 5W-30:

KV40 = 66.4 cSt
KV100 = 11.7 cSt
VI = 173
density = 0.836
HTHS (estimated) = 3.0 cP
Base-oil viscosity at 150 C (calculated/estimated) = 1.8 cP
Relative VII content (calculated/estimated) = 10%

Rotella T6 Multivehicle 5W-30

KV40 = 75 cSt
KV100 = 12.1 cSt
VI = 159
density = 0.845
HTHS (estimated)...

I liked it because I got 54 quarts of it for $2.13/qt when it was on closeout back in 2020. Finally used the last of it a year ago, now I'm going through the SuperTech FS 12 quart garage boxes I picked up for about the same price per quart. My vehicles don't know the difference.
