I was wondering what oil in the 5w30 grade was a low noack low shearing full syn. Ive used pp, valvo pu,qsud and Castrol syntec and carquest full syn. Ive used qsud the most and it seems very thin when I drain it. High smell of fuel also. The car calls for 5w20 0r 5w30 so I know if the oil shears down to a 20wt that's fine. I guess id have to do a uoa to truly know. Hyundai said the gamma di engine was hard on the oil and I should def change it by 4,000 miles.

M1 ESP 5w30 comes to mind, but it's a thick 30.

ps I only use synthetic. but im starting to think maybe pyb will do. Im just nervous because ive had a carbon issue and I was told to use a synthetic with the di engine

That isn't shearing. That is fuel dilution. You can get a lab analysis to confirm, but your nose knows.

Find and fix the fuel dilution problem. Don't fiddle around the margins with oils. There is only one way to handle fuel dilution until the problem is found & fixed---change the oil. Cheap oil with very frequent oil changes is a better stop-gap measure than expensive oil that has been diluted.

That's what I wanted pete. A thicker oil but in the same grade. Ive never used a mobil oil. I keep seeing a lot of iron in the uoas on hear so I always steared clear of mobil oils.

I think this is greatly blown out of proportion.

It is the fuel thinning it. The oil isn't shearing. Running premium has eliminated fuel dilution for me. Might be worth a shot for you.

If you are getting fuel dilution only I would run Supertech 5w30 and change it every 3000-4000 miles. I changed my mind...I would try Rotella T5 10w30 semi syn. It is a HDEO and should be good for 4000 miles.

That's interesting, I might give premium a try. Right now I'm running my car on 87 octane. Has anyone else has luck eliminating fuel dilution by using premium fuel?

Another option that might serve you well would be MaxLife synthetic. At least it's available in the States, and is still an ILSAC type oil. I do know that the regular MaxLife held up to fuel dilution a bit better (as in keeping oil pressure) than did a "regular" ILSAC type oil.

He can't do much to reduce fuel dilution because the Hyundai GDI engines always create fuel dilution.

Some threads about GDI Hyundai engines suggest using 5w40 oil.

From what I recall, that recommendation is for the turbo variants calling for 5w30, not NA engines for which the primary recommendation is 5w20.
