I figured I'd make 1 more post showing what she got, since I made several posts about looking for certain cars.

My grandmother picked up this 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT, 27k miles, $16,488. Was $18,740 out the door. Yes, it was previously a rental car, then someone else owned it and traded it in on a Wrangler. It actually has no scratches or dents at all, is totally clean. It's also a Certified used Dodge so it has a 7 year/100k mile powertrain warranty. Still 8,500 miles left on the bumper-to-bumper warranty. Has electric sliding doors and liftgate, stow-n-go seats, rear-A/C, power seat, and backup sensors. We looked at the 2016 base model, but they had no rear A/C and being Phoenix, that was a deal-breaker.

The dealer tried to get real sneaky. They say when paying cash for a car, they HAVE to include a $599 maintenance package which was just 10 oil changes. So it was much cheaper to put $12k down and finance the rest, she can pay it off next month. The finance guy also showed a brochure of their extended warranty and then kept talking. Then when signing papers, he slips her a paper for the $2,540 extended warranty. That really didn't make me happy with him, he had to re-do the paper because he factored that into the loan without telling her at all. They also tried to charge $299 for tinted windows, which the van already had so he removed that. Also there was a $199 charge for the paint sealant which they say they charge for every single car they sell. He took that off as well.

All said in done, she's a happy camper. Paid a decent price, and also got the lowest mileage van in town that was optioned well and was a great price.

Nice Van! My mom had a 2012 T & C, and she really likes it.

Interesting they tried that again and again, you would have thought they would have got the hint the first time.....

Yeah it really ticked me off.

She had a 1996 Grand Caravan many years ago and loved it. It too was white.

Nice job Nick. Sounds like they tried every trick in the book. When we bought the '14 RAV they tried the tint trick and had $299 added on the final page for a security package, little serialized stickers on the doorjams, hood, hatch. Told the closer no way, she wouldn't take it off, we got up and walked out. The Sales Manager got us on the way out and said he'd cut a check for the $299 or it would take an hour to redo the paper. It took 3 months to get the check but I did. Stupid move because we won't buy there again.

Just think how many people cave in. Again, well done!

It makes me so mad when they try to pull a fast one on you. I went with my Son when He bought a truck. I made them redo the paperwork three times. Nice van and good job.

Amazingly, my daughter bought a '15 CX-5 from Tuttle-Click Mazda in Irvine, Ca. and it couldn't have been better. She did the internet thing, got a great price, no tricks or high pressure at any time. They watched the car get unloaded off the car hauler with 2 miles on it. Never guessed it possible today.

As Nancy Reagan told us.... Just say no.

No to all of those extra charges for oil changes, paint sealant, theft etching... Just...say...no.

TruCoat <- the movie "Fargo". My introduction to the Coen Brothers.

Congrats and may your grandma enjoy her new ride in good health.

As for the F&I guy, screw him. Low life slime ball. He must slither along the ground to get around. Good thing you were there to help your gradma navigate that predator's devious moves. Kudos to you sir.

Nice looking van. Did you originally go for the new 2016 you saw for $17,400? Wondering if they made some reasons up as to how those rebates wouldn't all stick.

Yeah it was pretty bad. She was signing papers, was about 5 papers in, then he slips in the $2,540 extended warranty. She almost signed it because she wasn't paying attention. He didn't really even say what it was. Just something like "and here's for the platinum plan".

She test drove the 2016 at a different dealership. She didn't like the base model 2016 because no center console, no rear A/C, and no stow-n-go seats for the 2nd row. This 2014 has all the bells and whistles except for navigation and leather and TVs, all which she would hate. She actually wanted a white van too, it just happened to be the perfect package.

Nice!

Nothing wrong with white. I got made fun of, for buying a "plumber's" truck. But when I bought cap on the cheap I realized I could any color cap and it'd be fine.

I saw a white car once where it looked like several people attacked it with permanent marker, drawing cartoons and sayings. Seems like the perfect thing to do at the end of the vehicle's life.

Me too. I would have walked and if they want to finish the transaction I would demand $100-200 less than agreed price, and tell them that this was the price you pay when you try to scam a customer.
