Hello gentlemen and ladies. Does anyone here remember the 1994 film "The Shawshank Redemption"? I was wondering if it was in fact based on a true story. Just watched this movie last night and my word, it brought back memories from the first time I watched it. Trivia: Anyone know the actual prison used in the movie and where it is at?

a good movie but some extreme fiction.. Ive worked state and federal Prisons and can tell you ive never met guards that beat prisoners to death.. for that matter the handling of inmates is a very touchy topic, lots of cameras inside todays prisons.. the "eye in the sky" sees all...
Off topic: this also reminds me of shows like (SOA) Sons Of Anarchy. its good story telling but the audience is rooting for a 1% cop murdering, drug selling,gun running,prostitute protection, racketering, organized motorcycle crime ring.. and thats just the start of it... I find it amazing that after all the characters do in that tv series the audience is still rooting for the SOA to get away from the law, other dealers, crooks, murder's etc.. the whole show is rooted in cheering for the worst of the worst in todays society..

I am guessing that movies like Brubacker and Cool Hand Luke are what prisons in the south were like before the 1950's. I am sure the guards beat the inmates or gave "privileges" to other inmates that beat the right people.

I like breaking bad and dexter too, another law breaking set of people with hearts to cheer for? Anyway the more of these shows the better. What else is on, Kardashians, teen moms and staged rare finds in a pawn shop or storage locker.

REALLY, I have toured Alcatraz, but this place made Alcatraz seem like Summer Camp. Hard Core! It's a self guided tour, and not very Touristy, so you will likely be on your own most of the time.
