Semi-synth or adding a couple Full Synthetic to dino

Anyone know which would get better results

My truck takes 7 quarts so I wondered if adding two quarts of Full Synthetic at the oil to the 5 of dino they're going to put in to see if that would be better than going Semi Synthetic all the way. I've heard many Semi Synthetics have only 20% or so synthetic oil in them so I figured two quarts of Full Synthetic would be just a tad bit better for the same price.

Or will dino do the same job without all the hassle?

Dino would be fine in most cases. Unless you're doing extended drains and have out of the ordinary operating conditions..

I'm not a fan of mixing oils yourself even though they are supposed to be fully compatible. That being said, you would probably get more percentage of syn doing it your way than what is in the semi-syn bottles.

As indicated in your other threads, running a quality oil that meets your car's specs for 5k-mile OCIs is just fine...no need to overthink this...

Your OTC semi syn may have 15% grpiv &or v syn in it, whereas a "fully synthetic" may have less than 15% group iv or v in it. Your "full syn" is most likely a premium processed conventional oil not synthetic.

The only time I buy syn/blend oils specificly, is when there is a great sale/rebate/closeout.

I prefer(for the only reason, is that I prefer) to mix my own dino/syn. This way, I know exactly the % of my mix. For example: 2 qts PYB/3 qts PP...or visa-versa. Depends what I have in my stash at that time.

And I don't always stay with the same oil Mfg. I'll mix brands too!

Given that you can buy M1 for less than $25 for a five quart jug at Walmart, why not just run full syn?

I believe there are some inherent lubrication qualities in dino which cannot be expressed in syn. I used to do exactly what you are contemplating: 1qt PP + 4 qt Pennzoil conventional - then I looked more closely at the chemistries of each oil of the same brand, and they are radically different. I now run syn in the winter and dino in the summer--no more homebrewing.
Pennzoil has a semi syn which is 16.50 at Wallys for a 5 qt container. SOPUS claims at least 50% syn in this product, which IMO is the way to go if you want semi-syn-cheap & comes already made---if I didn't have a sizeable stash of dino & syn, I'd be using this product all year

if your looking for a semi-syn oil ford motorcraft is one of the best blends you can buy.

no reason to create a blend. just buy a good syn-blend oil like motorcraft.

Because I do often mix oils(as stated eariler), I've never been a believer that, I can outengineer the oil engineers. I do mix/blend out of convienence due to a large stash of dino & synthetic oils. And do so mainly to balance out my stash as I often buy up shelves of closeout oils when possible, staying within my vehicle MFG's recomendations...always the current standard of the day.

Those who have a large stash of oils(especialy indivdual qts) will agree that there are often straggler qts of one brand or another and often a different grades of oil if you should have multiple vehicles that have different recomendations.
