Just thought I would start one here, rather than in the lube development thread.

What do you guys use?

I tried Amsoil S2000 Racing grease and it works great, but still think even that may be too heavy. I have NOT tried a NLGI #1 grease.

That said - I find Ballistol applied lightly to work pretty well.

Never liked grease on slides. I prefer a med. weight oil. My favorite is Shooter's Choice FP-10.

Troublemaker. I dip my 1911s in M1 5w30. The Glock likes 0W-20 better but I'm going to try GC now that I know were to get it.

Seriously, depends on how you use your pistola right? If it's a range gun and you clean it every trip you could probably use butter.

You might like this one, Pablo. *Long* ago(probably late 1960s-early 70s), I remember reading a magazine article(American Rifleman?) about this. The guy took apart his Colt .45 automatic, stripped all traces of lubricant, then painted some key pieces thick with synthetic motor oil- early Amsoil, in fact.

He then put the oven on lowest heat, spread the pieces on a cookie shet, & let it heat(remember, very low heat) for several hours, then let everything cool. He used a clean dry rag & wiped away any leftover wet traces of the synthetic oil. Assembled the pistol then with *no* lubricant added to the rails/slide- or several other key spots- took it to the range, & was delighted with the results.

Since you're an Amsoil dealer, & have a new Colt-pattern .45 auto...

I use Tetra Gun grease. Some guns run better than others when wet. 1911 type guns seem to need to be run a lot wetter than Glocks, for example.

I buff the grease in with a Q-tip on Glocks and my Walther P22. On Sigs, Smith and Wessons and CZs I just wipe off the excess after assembly.
