Same grade homemade blending

I know many BITOGers make their own blends using different weight and brands with good results.

Is there any benefit to blending syn and dino using the same brand and weight, or just use them on their own separately? At what % of syn in the mixture is preferred to get the syn gains and getting the most out of each of them? (sounds like a H.S. math question - if you have ?? of product A and ### of product B, what time is it in France when the train arrives at the bus station...)

The brands I am looking at are off-the-shelf brands: Hav, Penn, Valv, Castrol, etc. (ones you can buy at W-mart, and chain autopart stores).

i do 3 quarts Pennzoil Conventional 5w30 and 1.5 quarts Pennzoil platinum syn 5w30, i dont know the exact percentage but i think it is around 33%.
Bill in utah has many used oil analysis with straight dino (castrol gtx) that turn in exceptional wear trends. I just do it because I just feel like it and what percent is the synthetic blends that you buy already blended?

If i do run gtx which i anticipate doing I will do the same, 3 qrts gtx, 1.5 or 2 syntec.

Right now I'm running a mix of Maxlife and Synpower; I guess you could call that a "double blend."

Mix whatever way you want. Mix to use up leftovers. Mix to thicken (10w30 plus 10w40, or in summer add some 20w50). Mix to make a blend, preferably using PAO I would think.

How about a mix of all the PCMO Valvoline brands, one quart each for a blend of Premium-Max-Dura-Power?

From someone who BOD's (buy on demand) and is not stock piling oil to take over the federal petroleum reserve or OPEC, how much syn is adequate? From what I recall, Dura has ~30% syn in their mix (or had at one time), but most other blends today are <30%. After doing some basic calculations, it doesn't take much to make 33-45% syn mix with a quart or two. I am looking to take advantage of dino sales and beef it up with some syn while keeping the cost down.
