We sold our 2004 Honda Accord V6 on 12/31; had 239,051 miles on it. It was a great car for us but it was time to give up miles and take on payments again. Wife drives out of town to work and the end of year sale here was too good to pass up.

I will add some UOA's as we go for the 0w20 oils and the CVT tranny takes Honda HCF-2 fluid. I'm hoping most of the bugs are worked out. In the end though it's about - When she is happy, everyone is happy!

There is different criteria for the wife's car vs your car.

It's nice hearing about high mileage cars. I'd be interested in hearing about your maintenance schedule and any major repairs.

I second this. Specifically, how many T-belt changes w/ or w/o the waterpump? Now that you have the 4cyl and timing chain no more worries.

What oil did you use for changes and for how long did you go? Any electrical issues? Rust?

How does the '14 compare with the '04?

Just got home from work, thanks for the replies. We were the original owners, the '04 was rust free. I tried to keep the undercarriage rinsed by using the car wash and spraying the underside out as best I could. Spent the first 2 years in middle Ohio while I was overseas and early '07 until present in N. Texas.

We did 2 timing belt + water pump/coolant changes on it following the OEM recommendations ( fairly close anyway.) Between about 140 - 160K I began to go through the suspension and replaced all the wheel bearings/hubs (rears were not very healthy anyway), strut & springs, ball joints and I replaced the rear upper control arms with adjustable ones to make camber adjustment possible on the rear. I also did a valve adjustment at 164K, the valves weren't too bad but I brought them both in the middle of the specs. While the top end was apart I removed the lower intake runners and injectors and cleaned them up, took the aluminum upper & lower pieces and fuel rails to work and ran them through the ultrasonic cleaner. I found a set of extra injectors and had them professionally cleaned and flow tested and put it back together. Really pepped it back up and smoothed it out again; replaced the EGR valve then too. I wouldn't have done all this if we weren't going to keep it back then.

I bled out the brake fluid every 2-3 years to keep the corrosion in check, front calipers were still the originals. The rears [censored] out at the last brake job I did, thin it was 2.5 years ago or so. The auto transmission died at about 188K, I have a thread here somewhere on it. Ran Redline D4 for man years but the 2nd clutch pack finally gave up. I kept up on the general type things, cleaned throttle body periodically, filters, plugs, just 1 starter believe it or not. OK, now the important part...my oil change practice.

Those first 2 years, the Zanesville, Ohio Honda dealer did the oil changes with Valvoline 5w20 every 3K and tire rotations every other oil change. I know, she spent some money she shouldn't have but what can you say? Once I took over full time maintenance, I used Valvoline Synpower every 5K until about 200K then switched to Max-Life because the rear main started to weep ever so slightly. Why Valvoline? They had awesome sales when the SM - SN change was occurring so I stocked up big time.

Never had any major issues or problems with it. Anyway, I just tried to stay on top of the little stuff and what I call consumables like brakes, fluids & filters, tires. The Gen 7 Accords were a very well rounded vehicle, if I find a low mile one again I will probably snatch it up.

Trans replacement thread

Wow, thanks for the info. Did you ever replace the coil packs? Happen to take pics while the valve cover was off?

How does your wife like the I4 compared to the V6? From what I've read the new DI-4 has good pep. What are your thoughts of the new ride? Did you consider anything else, like the Mazda6?

Thanks again.
