Will say this up front, I change the oil in our cars on a reasonable schedule.

That said, not changing the oil didn't contribute to the head gasket failing. Correct ? And why was he replacing timing chain related bits ?
 
The guy had zero in terms of maintenance records, and they covered it. 😲 This was far more than head gasket replacement that it went in for. I'd bet dollars to donuts if I was in similar situation around here, they would tell me to pound sand.

Guy asks at end of the video, if customer now with service covered under warranty more likely to do maintenance or keep doing the same thing, nothing? I'll choose the latter, thank you.

IDK if not changing the oil contributed to head gasket failure. But, I could see the increase in engine temps with sludgy oil being a factor in how fast it failed. Vid shows why he had to replace some timing chain parts. Showed worn sprocket teeth that go into chain and those had to be replaced, chain likely stretched. I could see how not changing oil would be a factor in that.

Main point I got from tech, being understated, not your typical head gasket replacement job. This goes far beyond occasionally extending an oci or two, the owner here clearly neglected maintenance.
 
We can certainly suspect he didn't do the oil changes on a sufficient basis; it appears that way. If we use this as our basis, then it's likely he didn't do other checks as well, such as coolant level. There's no proof one way or another that he didn't do the oil changes. Perhaps he did them at the extreme far end of the cycles, with the minimal oil spec'd? Also, if the coolant was leaking internally to the engine (not just into the cylinder), then that would also explain some of the gunky looking oil sludge as well.

I'd say he got lucky it was covered. There's no definitive proof one way or another what happened in terms of maintenance; only conjecture.
 
I would say that the engine ran pretty hard & got hot which contributed to the gasket popping. If you're one of those leaded foot drivers you might also be in the neglecting maintenance category also. Neglecting oil change along with overheating the engine will turn things to sludge real quick.
 
I agree with the tech's conclusion at 4:22 of vid and who 3 months previous to the HG service looked down the fill hole and saw how sludgy the engine was, before the teardown. His conclusion, neglected maintenance. I agree with him 100%.
