OH....this hurt my feelings.......

Things I've noticed around here...

- Sticking next to other cars, even when it's not necessary. It seems like a lot of people here will pace your quarter panel/fender despite changing speed, and ignore signals when you need to change lanes. It's really bad on one stretch of four lane road with a center turn lane just outside my neighborhood. I have had to slam on the brakes to get rid of a quarter panel leech and get over in the lane I needed to. I've had friends visit from out of state, and they notice the frequency of this annoying behavior in this area too.

- Treating yield signs as "GO ALL THE TIME!!!" A lot of drivers here don't seem to understand that yield means wait for traffic with the right of way to pass, then go.

- Ignoring lanes. I've noticed lots of lane drifting lately. It leads to a lot of wrecks here.

- General distracted / crazy driving. The real world is not Grand Theft Auto.

The incompetent imbeciles who negotiate corners and interstate ramps at 20 mph below the posted advisory speed riding their brake the entire time.
And their idiot cousins who apply their brake at every corner.

2) The merge lane on freeways. Most/all modern cars have enough power to accelerate up to freeway speeds in the merge lane. If the highway you are merging with has a speed limit of 70 mph, then you need to be going 70 miles per hour at the time of merge. Its the skinny pedal on the right - use it, it works. I see people merging at 45 mph which causes all kinds of havoc behind them and even leads to crashes.

Not only this, but these people need to learn that traffic on the highway has the right of way...if a driver is in the right lane at the merge point, it's up to the person merging to adjust their speed...most people I see just force their way onto the highway and they expect you to move over into the left lane to let them in...

+1 And don't express your displeasure with me "riding your Tail" by giving me a "Brake Check".......it'll only make me angrier!

Don't tailgate and you won't get brake checked...FWIW, it's NEVER ok to tailgate...

How about staying out of the PASSING LANE unless your "passing" and you won't have to worry about anyone "Tailgating" you.....

I don't left lane camp...as wrong as it is to drive slow in the left lane, it's just as bad or worse to tailgate, and like I said, there's no justification for doing it...

To be fair you also drive an ///M car.

I agree though. I was behind someone this morning that slammed on their brakes around every slight corner.

Tailgating is just normal freeway daytime vehicle separation here. If you don't want to be tailgated at speed, you stay off the freeway and get tailgated more slowly. Just the way things are.

At night when traffic volumes are lower its avoidable but is sometimes apparently deliberate. I drive slowly and I get tailgated at night in the slow lane, often by trucks. Since they can easily pass I assume they are making some kind of point. If I'm feeling brave I slow down some, but a semi tractor close to the back window of my ancient, lightly constructed econobox is a bit intimidating and sometimes I weaken and speed up. Very irritating.

That's the way it is in New England too.

The other day I noticed a big rig coming up behind me. Got curious if his plate would disappear (following very close). Didn't happen, probably because my old Camry has a low beltline... regardless, didn't bother me. Maybe it's because I haven't been rearended yet, but "tight" traffic seems par for the course.

A minivan or SUV can usually take the ramp at the advisory speed in dry conditions. Heck, my objective is to double the speed in the dry, and I drive a 14 year old Mazda hatchback.

My general rule about taking corners is that, if there is a warning sign with a recommended speed, subtract five and double the result to get a decent speed at which to take the corner. It's so sad that pretty much all vehicles handle better than they did in years past and drivers take corners even slower. I guess that's what you have to do to text and navigate a corner at the same time.

This person was in an Audi A4, so I don't think it had any problems with handling the corners either.

I think it has more to do with texting, on the phone, etc. I was once behind a car that gradually came to a stop at a green light. They were looking down the entire time, even when I honked and went around them.

I'm reminded that cornering at speed is not conducive to tire life.

Not saying I'm for running cloverleafs at 15mph, just pointing out that not all of us want to take them at 75 either.

Had to parse that a bit. I think I get it now.

Doesn't change though that I'd like to economize by not rubbing all the tread off my tires prematurely. I'm lucky to get 40k, and often less.

This is the problem...people today see and do improper/illegal/dangerous driving so much that they consider it normal, and LE doesn't help at all by being completely non-existent for traffic violations...in cases where everyone is driving like idiots, LE could just set up check points to hand out mass tickets....and kill two birds with one stone...curtail the bad driving, and fund the police force coffers...

I don't care how fast someone takes a corner as long as they are at least going the advisory speed.
