How can a boutique oil compete with that? And then, of course, there is this:

When they're on sale, the quarts drop in price significantly, very much to big jug levels (per quart). RP on the other hand never seems to go on sale and is only available in quart bottles.
LOTS of people buy those synthetics in qt bottles. It may be because their sump takes less than 5 qts and they don't want to deal with the left over from a 5qt jug or many sumps take more than 5qts which requires a few qt bottles as well. Lots of people won't shop at Wal-Mart as well. The main point made was when comapring qt bottle costs RP is no more expensive than the others.
PepBoys routinely offers RP oil for 5qts w/ an RP filter for $40 or just 5qts for $35 so I would say RP can compete. I have purchased RP through various online retaiilers like SUMMIT and JEGS who had it on sale similar to PepBoys. We don't have any O'Reilley's here but people have posted here before of good deals(sales ) there too.
This price issue about RP being so much more expensive is just myth and misunderstanding.
