Wal-mart had royal purple oil. Didn't think they carried it. also saw Pennzoil conventional at orielly's for $2.49 which seems like a good deal since I think supertech was 2.38 the last time I was at walmart.

I've seen Royal Purple in Wal-Marts as long as two years ago. Some time back we got into a debate here where a poster was absolutely certain that the only way Royal Purple could be in Wal-Mart is if the retailer was going around the company and getting it through secret distribution channels. I find that possibility hard to believe.

I believe that could be true because when I talked to RP in the past they were very firm in not lowering their price to be sold in wal-mart. That person went on and talked about how wal-mart drives companys out of business.

There is no way they can get product into Walmart via secret distribution channels. I saw RP at several Walmarts in FL. All of their shelf space is set up by corporate head-quarters (you can occasionly see computer print-outs taped to the shelves that tell the stockers exactly where to put the stuff).

People who complain about Walmart are cry-babies. No one is forced to do business with them. They are a discount store, and if you don't want to sell your product at cheap prices, then you are free to sell it somewhere else or sell it like Amsoil.

For those who have seen Royal Purple at Walmart, how much was it selling for? If you live near an Advance you can go in there and say Walmart is selling Royal Purple for whatever price it is and they should match that price (also can be done with other oils that they both sell).

Its around in the 7.99 dollar range around here in the auto parts stores. . .

I am the member who posted that Wal-Mart was getting their RP from a second hand source. Unless things have changed and RP now sells direct to them it was an accurate statement I made. Came from a high up employee at RP with absolutely NO reason to lie to me about it. They actually asked for lists of stores where it was being sold so they could try and find out how they were getting it.

No RP in any Wal-Marts around here.

Same here...but with the Qtorque at $9 for 5 qt jug who wants RP?

I hate osama-bin-walmart, they're garbage and they destroy communities.

...however, I get Rotella Synthetic and a few other things there. lol

From what I have seen locally and in the number of threads on here, Walmart has been having a major clean up of their oil isle all over the country. They are getting rid of slow sellers to make room for new product such as Edge, Royal Purple, the new Quaker State lineup, and Maxlife synthetic.

Locally they are even getting rid of slow sellers inside of product lines they are still carrying. Most of the 5w-20 grades have been on clearance and their shelf space is now gone.

As far as RP goes, I had seen it at a handful of stores in other areas of the country several years ago so maybe the outside supplier story was true then but now, every store in the area has added it to their lineup. I seriously doubt they are getting that much of it from anywhere but the source.

Bye the way, Walmart is carrying RP in 5w30 and 10w30 weights at $6.87 and $6.7? respectively. That's still much cheaper than the Castrol Edge at $7.40 something for the individual qts.

Second-hand? I thought someone said "secret." Sure, Walmart can get RP from whomever wants to sell it to them. The Supreme Court ruled a long time ago that RP cannot stop them, but RP can stop selling to the company that sells to Walmart if they want to. Maybe you mean that RP does not know where Walmart gets it? Hmmm. I bet they can figure it out sooner or later.

Before the Supreme Court ruled on that back decades ago, everyone paid MSRP (List Price) for everything, and I mean everything (most of you are too young to know that).

My point is that it that RP is not being sold directly to individual stores, it is sold to Walmart and they distribute to their stores. Walmart does not sell the same products in all parts of the country, and they do have some "local" products, even if not at the store level. Go to the back of a Walmart store, and if you ever see anything other than a Walmart truck at the loading docks, let me know.

I have seen the same thing at several Walmarts in my area. A complete makeover of the motor oil category shelf-space and end-caps. From the looks of things, BP must be making a very sweet deal for Wal-Mart to give Edge some premium shelf space and end-caps and free-standing displays in larger stores.

I noticed that both Edge and Mobil 1 5-quart jugs have the Walmart logo on the labels, mentioning that Walmart recycles used motor oil.

Maybe what RP needs to do is what Essilor (the large eyeglass lens maker) does. For their premium progressive lenses (which can cost upwards of $500 just for the lenses) they sell one brand (Varilux) to small optical shops, and another brand (Essilor) to the big box retailers like Walmart/Sams Optical. That way the small retailers can claim to offer an exclusive product at a premium price, even though the Essilor brand products are virtually identical. The Bedding industry does the same thing--you will not find the exact model name of a bed at two different retailers, making it very hard for consumers to comparison shop.

I think it was just under $7 .... the strange thing is that not all Walmart carry the same stuff. For a while, one in my area had SeaFoam about 9 months before the others and it was under $6 but now it is over $8. None of the Walmart's around me carry the RP...this walmart was about 135 miles away. I used to live right down the road from RP's headquarters... kinda funny that it is in a small town
