Royal Purple answer about ATF+4

Royal Purple is still working on an ATF+4. This is one of those things that is just not that simple. We have the technology to produce an ATF+4. But Chrysler will not give it warranty approval. So at this time we are only going to produce the MAX ATF. You can use Max ATF in an ATF+4 application once your warranty period has expired.



Sorry but at this time we have no plans to produce any 0 weight oils.

The above post is in my request about a RP ATF+4 product and about the possibility of RP introducing API approved 9 weight oils.

We have not seen Schaeffers jump in and make a 5w-20 yet either have we ?

No. One is about ATF and not having the manufacture recognize it for warranty purposes. Your's is about a smallish oil blender whose main business is industrial lubricants and happens to make a limited amount of passenger vehicle oils in the most popular grades. Since 5W-20 is not that widely used yet it doesn't pay for them to take production capacity away more widely used oils at this time. Or do you mean 5W-20 just bites and only nut cases who hate their vehicles use it

Still yet if I were in charge of a smaller company such as RP or Schaeffers or other I still would not make anything for Chrysler .

If history repeats they'll just want something different in a year or so anyway

Why waste the effort which is in reality......money .

I got some technical help from Patrick at RP as well in regard to ATF+4. But somehow I think you are referring to use in an auto transmission. I was looking for an ATF+4 replacement for a 5 speed manual transaxle and Patrick recommended their Synchromax fluid, it has a viscosity of about 7.7 cst. and is suitable for replacement for ATF+4 in manual transmissions, not autos though.

BTW , anyone know the viscosity of ATF+4 ?, is he implying that it is a 0 weight fluid ?. I will be doing a used oil analysis on it in the spring but I would like to know the viscosity range if anyone knows it.

ATF's range from 7.0 cSt to 8.5 cSt@100 C.

I prefer a Synchromesh fluid in the 9.0 cSt range.
