Hello folks, so I bought myself a brand new 2024 Audi Q5.
Audi first oil change is scheduled at 15 000 km (10 000 miles).
My plan is to keep this car for long term, i'm thinking of changing the factory fill early at 1500 km. Is it overkill ? and then every 10 000 km. I live in Canada were climate is harsh and my comutesto work are 11 km.

Also my oil of choice will be Rowe 0w20 because it has all the right specs for a very good price. 12,99$ CAD for a liter.
Any toughts on this brand of oil. My other choice ( VW 508 ) where I live are more expensive : Liqui Moly, Mobil 1 or the dealership oil.

That all sounds good, although I’d do 7,500km oil change intervals as per the severe service schedule.

I have two VWs (see signature) and i change the oil with the appropriate approved VW oils every 5000 miles. I would not push my oils to 10,000 miles. YMMV.

I've never hears of Rowe, but that doesn't mean much.
Canadian Tire has M1 ESPx2 at $12.50 a liter, and it should go on sale for 25% off when CT has sales.
If it was my ride, I would do M1 at minimum 7,500 km intervals. Given your commute, I would consider 5,000 kms oil changes. Daily winter drives with engine not fully warming up are brutal on oil.

Rowe is a good oil, no doubt, just not a popular choice in our market. If it carries the appropriate VW/Audi approval/license, you're good to go. I would just source the cheapest oil that carries that approval.

And I'm in the "change the factory fill lube early" camp, so you have company ;)

Lastly, pics of the new baby!

So at 1500 km , I did change my oil and as expected I found metal specs in the oil and the filter. One thing I noticed right away after putting the Rowe 0w20 is better fuel economy wich bring me confidence that it's a great oil.

Normally, seeing metal anything in filter pleats or oil would be cause for worry. But it's probably somewhat expected on a factory fill of most any new engine. The filter should catch anything that could cause damage and prevent it from recirculating throughout the engine.

Unfortunately there is no way you’d be able to detect and then attribute such a small fuel economy change to a motor oil. This difference is deep into the noise of everyday driving. It’s there, but far below effects of the numerous other and more significant variables that are present.

And it’s not an indicator of a “great oil”. It’s an indicator of an oil with a lowered HT/HS that results in less fuel consumption. It says nothing about quality.
