So, saw this at Walmart the other day and decided to give it a try. Haven't put it in my bike yet (2007 FZ6), but noticed nothing about this oil exists online. Is it just really new? I will have to test a UOA of it, but that probably won't come until later this year.
Has anyone tried this specific grade (15w40) yet, and if so, any opinions compared to T6 or the conventional 15w40?

Thanks!

I didn't think T5 had the JASO MA rating? Might be fine still but T6 5W40 and regular 15w40 does have the motorcycle rating. My ATV clutch slipped badly with regular motor oil, but I put in some T6 and its held now for a couple 100 hours.

Compliant; not certified or registered. I know it's a nitpick, but maybe something to consider.

I have it in my FZ1 right now, No clutch issues so far. Ya know, when the Rotella movement started years ago, I don't think any of it was JASO rated. I don't know if Delo has the rating either. The T6 seems to shear significantly when used in a shared sump system, for those that are concerned. I have been using white bottle 15W-40 for a long time in my bikes. When the T5 15W-40 came out, I thought I'd give it a try since it was priced between the white bottle (T3?) and the shear prone T6.

Yup, you will always be better off with a 15/40 over a 5/40 in a shared sump bike, there is a reason bike makers dont suggest a 5/40 oil and its all in the UOAs on this forum.

Just as an update, I put the T5 15w40 in my bike today and took it for a nice long ride and it felt beautiful! Definitely my new go to oil, especially since its over half the price of the Valvoline 4T I was previously using. Hopefully itll keep up a good shift feel for at least 3k.

Does the T5 semi syn meet the same bike specs as the white bottle? (JASO MA)?

If so, can I run this in by bike considering it's spec'd for a 10w40?

thanks guys

True enough.

To add to that - Many motorcycle-specific oils that list "JASO-MA" on their bottles - do not display the certification symbol. Mobil 1 V-Twin, 4T Racing, Amsoil MCF and Amsoil MCV, Rotella (and more) fall into this category.

These companies do their own in-house testing. In their defense, the wet clutch friction test is not rocket science.

Other than BRP who sells their 5-40 to Spyder owners and claim its good for
9300 miles between changes. Their Rotax motors are all shared sump. FWIW, a
couple years ago I ran some Rotella T 15-40 conventional oil and a UAO at
3000 miles showed to be down in mid-upper 30 weight. I've never run anything
over 5000mi but BRP claims that the shearing rapidly tapers off, so you can
do the long UAO's. Being old school, I'm sticking with a good synthetic and
changing at 5K.

Exactly, all oil in shared sumps shears rapidly in the first couple thousand miles then levels off.
Since the maker of your Spyder recommends a 5/40 they are aware of this and are quite happy with the engine/transmission running 30 weight oil. Really simple stuff.

For bikes that recommend 10/40 ..
15/40 oil will shear less, then the 5/40 Rotella and many people with metric bikes might notice that shearing using 5/40 experience less then smooth shifting.

If you change oil regularly like you do at 5000 miles (and me at around 3000 or so) it doesnt matter what you use as long as it is within specs from the manufacturer. I use conventional oil but syn is fine.

I actually contacted shell about the JASA rating and use with wet clutches for T5 a couple years ago. Paraphrasing they said they can't guarantee anything because it hasn't been tested but its VERY similar to both Rotella T and T6 which are both JASO rated. The restated about not being able to guarantee anything but would expect it to work just fine.
