First post here. I sent in my oil using Caterpillar services since it was a little more convenient.

I keep extremely detailed records on fuel fill ups and ONLY fill up with Marathon (used to be Texaco) gas stations since they have the STP additives, which may have helped get decent numbers. I also put through a period of 2100 miles and 4 fill ups a 16 oz bottle of Marvel Mystery Oil.

When I bought the car over 2 years ago, I went home and changed to Rotella 5W-40...the car has had nothing else in it since.

Code:

Apparently, after talking with my dad, I could go ALOT longer on the change. I do not have virgin numbers.

High fuel. Did you drain this cold or did you drain it after a good 15-20 minute highway run to get the fuel out?

And yeah, I'd say Rotella T6 in such an easy-going engine can probably go a lot longer.

Honestly, I got mad (from something else) that morning of the change and gunned it without a minute "warm-up" like I usually do in any weather.

It was ran for about 10 min and to operating temp known via a ScanGuageII. I came back and parked and let cool for about 10 min, in the time it took me to jack up the car and get the right wrench.

Zinc is almost 1700? I believe it starts out at only 1200, so..?

Before your next UOA sample, take a nice freeway run to burn off some fuel.

Why exactly are you running a 40 weight oil?

the report reads 4,960k?

your leaving alot of time and money on the table, take a cheap 5/20 out 9-10k and every other OCI replace the filter and keep that under $3 too.

It was supposed to be 7,960 miles, and not 4. 4 is a long ways from 7 on the keypad, not sure how I made that mistake.

I'd rather not go cheap on an engine. I'm using K&N right now for the filter. Haven't been able to cut one open yet, though

Nice report, I run rotella t-6 5w 40 in my truck and escape in the summer. Runs great, I can't see any difference in fuel mileage.

I like the outside of the box style of oil you picked for an Accord! How can anyone complain about anything with #'s like that? I can't wait until I am out of warranty and can use what I want. Good run! Thanks for posting!

Well, if it's good enough for a truck engine doing heavy loads and the rough environment one would work in, then it's even better for the Accord. It's been working good for me so far, so I don't plan on changing. I"m going to keep doing analysys....maybe push it to 11,000 this next time.

~Michael~

PS, oh and while I"m thinking about it, is there a way to get an e-mail when someone replies to your thread? I haven't seen it anywhere on here. i want to post more but keeping up where I've posted would be hard.

..is this correct..1700ppm/zinc or a mistake for the T-6..I was also wondering if the Viscosity @100C of 14.1 is also correct at 7000+mi..I thought 14.2 on the shell web site is given as fresh oil...
