......just no
There's so many things wrong with that statement, I can't even.

Don't even consider getting under a car without something more then a jack supporting it.

Well, I never said it was safe. I most certainly did not advise anyone to crawl under and unsupported vehicle, which I don't know why anyone would do to change a tire to begin with. But anyway, just because something can be done, it OBVIOUSLY doesn't mean it should be done. Luckily you figured that out on your own. You are safe (I think).

Putting the car on the four jack stands was the easy part. But then how do you get the car down, that's the problem:

First, I couldn't remove two of the jack stands because the floor jack wouldn't raise the car high enough. Then I put a wooden block between the floor jack and the car and I was able to remove the two jack stands. Then, when I lowered the car, the wooden block got stuck between the floor jack and car because the car was too low! I don't remember how I was able to free the jack with the wooden block stuck.

Now you have given me the excuse to buy another floor jack! I don't want to get caught in similar situation.

I have the front end on stands, as I'm doing an oil change anyways, then as the oil is draining, I'll jack up the back end and do the rotation. Its not rocket surgery. Just don't crawl underneath while doing it this way.

Discount Tire has been telling me for years that, unless there is uneven wear on one side v. the other, I should just rotate on the same side. I agree with that in concept. Any time a tire is put in a different location there will be a brief period of accelerated wear as it "wears in" to the new location. Reversing direction would seem like it would increase that extra wear.

I alternate my rotations between home (with two trolley jacks) and Discount Tire (so they can balance the wheels). We both do only same side rotations.

The Legend doesn't have directional tires but the wheels are front/rear specific. Not a big deal here.

But the Camaro has directional tires AND the wheels are front/rear specific. DIY tire rotation is not in the cards.

Lift and support front of car. Place floor hack somwhere near back. Pinch weld, frame or differential will do.
Lift rear of car; any 3 points makes a plane.
For work underneath car, support rear on jackstands.

Or

Call Superman. He cn lift car with 1 arm and spin off lugs with his fingers.

i rotate the tires on my vehicle every 5k. 4 jack stands, jack and air gun and torque wrench. done in half hour. i do the rear cross on the awd ones and front cross on FWD ones,
