Yes, spell it out. I wanted my house covered 100% with Grace Ice and Shield, as I had ice damming and wanted it nipped in the bud. I tend to hang around when I have someone working on my house (or furnace or septic), but for some reason I took off for a bit (probably a bicycle ride). Came back, house half shingled, but they skipped the couple feet from the eves. I mean, the lower 4' was done properly, I'm talking about the eves as you go up the roof.
I would have gladly paid $100 more to have it done my way! My loss. At least it hasn't leaked yet.
Since then I've done more reading on the subject, and now I'm not sure it was wise to have it done this way. Regardless, spell it out, and perhaps stick close to home to do your own inspections.
