It would be really nice if we could just talk reasonably about motorcycles.

This board has proved itself incapable of that time and time again, particularly if the MoCo is involved.

When someone basically says “it sucks, but I have never ridden it and don’t intend to” then they’ve shown what they are. There is no point is continuing a discussion with that person.

Did Harley really discontinue the V-Rod, or only in the States? I hear they're very popular in Europe, and I always liked the way they looked.

Talk reasonably? You mean like this?

I’ve had Hondas, Kawasakis, a Yamaha and 2 Ducatis.

Japanese bikes are fine if you want plastic chrome and paint that looks like it was put on by a drunk 5 year old with a dollar store paint can (witch Kawasaki will refuse to fix BTW).

Here is an idea, if you don’t like Harleys just don’t read/reply to Harley threads... especially if you refuse to even try the one you are railing against.

Wouldn't it be reasonable to accept that some people, for their own reasons, just don't like what you like? Are you so sensitive about whether people like everything else you own, or is it just your Harley? I mean, nobody said your wife was ugly or your child was stupid. Just let it go and enjoy your bike, unless the adulation of others is why you bought it.

I do not care what you or anyone else thinks of my stuff at all. Though I see you’ve climbed aboard the ship for the trip.

I did forget to mention the great expanding Ducati fuel tank debacle, and the melting Honda dash, though Ducati fixed it without complaint and Honda fixed it with significant complaint.

How insecure must one be to bother with defending a corporation on the internet against people who don't like their products, as if their own sense of self worth was based on their ownership of an object? Plenty of pathetic to go around. [/quote]

Bend over, reach up grab your shoulders, and pull downward. When you hear a pop you will know what it is.

We interrupt this dogfight for a Special Report: Buffy almost takes out Loneranger today.

Okay, now for something to bind us back together as riders and bikers. I'm out this afternoon enjoying the new Guzzi, drinking in the vibrations and exhaust note of the 1151cc Italian air cooled pushrod twin. I'm on a main thoroughfare that has side roads that T up to it with stop signs for them and nothing for the main. Back yards of houses butt up to this area of it on my side and its a steady line of privacy fencing up to a side road which is entrance to that neighborhood. I always eyeball such situations and cover the brakes without necessarily always slowing up. Sure as [censored] here comes Buffy in a Kia Soul whizzes up to the stop sign, barely slows while throwing a half baked glance my way and there she is whipping out and turning with the lane to head my way in front. One of those "don't you do it..." moments and they did it. The Guzzi has some decent brakes, didn't dive too hard full composure maintained. Her hand was up by her face and one hand on the wheel, couldn't see a phone but the posture was right. Don't stop, just break pace whip out and go Buffy. You go girl!! Never mind the guy on the bike you just cut off.

The irony is I spent some time last night after dark in our church parking lot which is good and level checking headlight and fog light aim against the building from 30' or so, so I know my beams are frosty but it just doesn't matter they look right through us. They're looking for cars and trucks not bikes, I know.

Fact that we all, regardless of what we ride, face these same risks binds us together and encountering it on the road highlights that arguing about makes and models is trivial and petty.

Yes it is. Glad you made it alright. You have to watch them every second. I'm fortunate. Been riding since 1958 and have never gone down on the road. I watch them like a hawk. I was out riding my Sportster this afternoon. Didn't have any close calls thank goodness. I have a highly modified engine with performance exhaust to go with the cams I have. A lot of over lap. That lets the pipe really make a difference but its too loud. I don't like it. I think I'm going to order a Supertrapp 2 into 1. That's the quietest performance exhaust out there. Have a good one.

I was taught decades ago to ALWAYS have a couple fingers on the front brake lever. I've been doing it so long I don't even consciously think about it anymore. Also, always assume the worst will happen, and that you are invisible.

I'm glad you came out of your encounter with the braindead cager, unscathed.

While the engine in your Guzzi was originally designed as a pushrod twin, it was since modified and now uses an SOHC set-up.... thought you might like to know.....

Nice bike btw and glad you're ok....

I really miss the middle weight 2 strokes . 350 to 500 ccs , light and needing minimal upkeep. I love the the feel of the engine. That is another subject though.

One can't get much further away from a Harley than said two-strokes; the latter being light, responsive, powerful (for their displacement of course) vs... the former, well, you know.... diametrically opposed in every possible way

Externally I can't see evidence of any provision on the heads nor along the jugs for a chain to drive an ohc.

Do a Google search and see for yourself; I have nothing to gain by making this up.....

FWIW, the evolution from OHV to SOHC dates back to a racing project by a chap named Wittner... look it up and learn about your bike's ancestry

Well, I rode a friend's modified Hayabusa yesterday. That thing will scare you it's so fast. In a different league, though. Dang bike will do 135 in third gear.

Doh !! Well that's good news I guess and explains why it seems to like to rev, yet still has very linear torque delivery. I must have been hearing about the 2 valve motors or something.

OP - Have you ever ridden anything other than a Harley for more than one day? I'm sure it's a good bike for what it is, but they didn't really make that many drastic changes to make this thing into a cutting edge canyon carver like you're describing. It's a 700lb motorcycle with a little bit more power than the previous version, along with being low to the ground so your chicken strips will show well before you scrape a peg. Just some food for thought.

shame my word wasn't good enough for you.... oh well..... as for the revving part, back in 1978 Honda built a 4-valve pushrod V-twin (liquid-cooled to boot) called the CX500 and its redline was 9500 rpm (you can Google that too). so pushrod engines can be made to rev...

as for the linear torque delivery, that's all about tuning and has nothing to do with OHV or OHC configuration (despite what some OEM press material would have you believe).....
