I just got "new" heater hoses from Rock Auto and see the damage on this one.

Would you install this hose? It's a bear to get at to replace. I don't think it's all the way through, but I've already got 30 year old hoses that don't have abrasion or cuts like this, and there is no excuse for sending out product like this IMO. The ends fit so loose it makes me wonder if it's already been installed before and someone slapped a new label on it for resale... ? ?

How would you handle this with Rock Auto? They make it very hard to contact them and will probably tell me I can return it at my expense. I think I will have to draw the line on that and tell them they will be paying for the return if I don't use it.

Go to their returns section of website and tell us what happens. Stuff happens , it’s not a big deal.

Return and they should pay return freight. Shipping probably more than hose cost, they should just refund you. If all else fails dispute with credit card company.

They'll make it good, I suspect. I had a radiator delivered with dents in some of the fins and they replaced it without even requiring a return. They requested pics and I had a replacement in a couple of days.

Returns have been no hassle for me. Had a hub assembly with a broken wire. No problem to return and they dispatched a replacement immediately.

Their website doesn't allow you to go back and change your answers to their multiple choice questions, so be sure to answer correctly the first time.

That said I haven't had problems overall and their returns are usually easy.

I think you'll have the choice for a refund or a replacement. Depending on the price, they may not even require the hose to be returned.
